Is the world going to end on December 21, 2012?
The Voice magazine ^ | Brian Burke

Posted on 06/19/2009 8:56:33 AM PDT by truthnomatterwhat

Signs are evident we are living in a spiritually prophetic age. Many have deep seated questions about our times and are frantically searching for answers wherever they can to find them. Intellectuals are turning to lost civilizations like the Mayans and the ambiguous predictions of Nostradamus to satisfy a need for truth. They’ve even dug up some of old Merlin’s psychic prophesies to learn what he said about the end of the world — we won’t repeat them here. Their conclusion after gathering all the prophetic material: All sources agree, the world will end in 2012. It can’t be a coincidence after all, since so many diviners, psychics from barbaric primitive times agree. If the world is going to end in just three years from now, why should we be worried about global warming? Why worry about saving the economy? Think!

I can not see Obama running ahead of his 2008 totals.

The next election will be really close, probably close enough for both sides to scream fraud.

I vaguely remember an end-of-the-world type scare when I was a kid in the late sixties or very early 70s. California was supposed to be underwater. For a little kid, this fired the imagination, as I thought it would be like living in a fish aquarium, with the cute little underwater castle. Does anybody else remember the California under-water prediction?

we live next to a navy base/weapons depot (in Indiana, go figure) and spent half of my school year cowering under a desk, practicing for the nuke attack that would inevitably hit the base (8 miles away from the school). evidently the powers that be believed those desks would protect us from complete annihilation. as for CA, we were always hearing that the “big one” was gonna hit them and they would be broken off from the mainland and sink. wrongs all around, huh?

The foolishness in date-setting is that pesky little thing called death. My hope is not in future dates, but in Jesus Christ. They can plan all they want for December 21st, 2012, but we're not guaranteed to see that date, anyway:

"Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit' - yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.' As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil" (James 4:13-16, ESV).

Believers who buy into a future date are in danger of letting their guards down - after all, "there's plenty of time to get things done." You cannot do that in the midst of a spiritual battle.

Non-believers think it's cool because they have time to get their wickedness in before "getting right with God."

All of this boasting about what we think we know distracts us from the main point - God gives everyone our "life and breath and everything" (Acts 17: 25). It can be taken away in an instant. Jesus is the Ark that provides refuge from the coming judgment. People have to board now. There's no time to wait.

My "powers that be" believed that an elementary school locker against our back would save us ...

No.

But we are all going to die.
Everyone you know is also going to die.
Everything you own will be destroyed.

It’s just a question of when.

So we should worry about gullible warming if we know that the world has ended at least 18 since the second gunman shot Kennedy from the grassy knoll?

Only Nostradamus, Merlin, and the Mayans....bahh humbug

I’m not budging ‘til Letterman, Pelosi, Oprah, and Obama are on board.

By the way, there’s also the issue of the cosmic clock losing a second or so every thousand years.

I’m pretty sure that will put the end a few seconds before midnight on the 21st. /s

Finally, have you ever heard of a NEENER HIJACKING? It’s FRIDAY and you’ve definitely posted a candidate thread.

The way I see it is whether they’re right or not, there’s not much I can do about it.

Although I’m cutting off the diet around Labor Day that year. Just in case...

All I remember is the earthquake prediction where California would just be it’s own island.

Speaking of religion and dieting:

It’s something most of us do religiously: We eat what we want and pray we don’t gain weight.

Sweets are the destiny that shapes our ends.

A diet is the modern-day meal in which a family counts its calories instead of its blessings.
