Author and emeritus LDS Church general authority Gerald N. Lund says he will not write a 10th and concluding novel to his "The Work and the Glory" series.

There have been nine volumes published in the popular fictional series, which follows the Steed Family through the early growth of Mormonism. The family converts to the faith in the 1800s, then travels west with the saints.

In a YouTube.com , Lund explains that although he intended to write a book which followed the Steed Family into modern times, the story just wasn't coming together.

In the preface to "Volume 9: All is Well," Lund wrote of his intentions to cap off the series with a 10th book. In the YouTube video, he says, "I wish I'd not said that."

He said his goal in writing the books was to tell the story of the restoration, and in bringing his characters to the Salt Lake Valley in volume 9, he felt as though he accomplished that. Lund has written several other fictional books, including the three-book series "Kingdom and the Crown," and the "Fire of the Covenant," about the Willie and Martin handcart companies.

"I have felt that in a way, the 'Fire of the Covenant' and 'The Undaunted' (which will be released in August) are the sequels to 'The Work and the Glory,'" he said.

Shame, they were good stories. Living near Kirtland, it was interesting to see his depiction of the early LDS in this area.

Read all nine. Loved every minute. Saw both the movies and loved them. I love our Church.
