Is this the version that says Jesus was crucified between two revolutionaries, as opposed to two robbers or thieves?

My sister and I, both converts, noticed this in the reading of the Passion.

I wasn't sure whether it came from the translation used or if the publishers of the missalette our parish had been using were offering their own creative interpretation.

You think THAT's bad? The original version before editing was:
IHS was crucified between two other noble freedom fighters who made the tactical error of speaking truth to power with swords instead of the internet and were vegetarians and pro-choice and drove Priuses ("Prii" in the Vulgate) and voted for Geraldine Ferraro.
Just sayin'.

I noticed that too. I wonder who they were revolting against.

The NAB uses "revolutionaries," and I've read that that is a possible meaning for the Greek word, as well as "thieves." My surmise is that the Greek word was pretty general, perhaps comparable to our "ruffian" (a tad old-fashioned, but you get the point), and was used to apply to a variety of acts of hoodlumism ("hoodlum" might do it too?). Of course, to the modern Left, "revolutionary" is a term of approbation, but I think -- to say the least -- that aspect was totally lacking to the original Greek!
