There are endless ideologies - political and religious - that have developed and have dominated the human race since the Babel dispersion 4,200 years ago (Genesis 10, 11:1-9). These ideologies are all rooted in the fallen humanity (i.e., inherent depravity) of man, and are ruled by his sensual nature (i.e., the five senses that govern fallen man in this physical world).

Liberal theology is opposed to this premise. Liberal theology presumes that each of us have the potential of being like Jesus provided we are raised in an environment of justice and peace.

Liberal theology assumes man is inherently good and that a just God would not condemn inherently good people. A just God would want a man who lived a good life to go to heaven regardless of who he thinks Jesus is. Jesus is not THE way but rather A way.

The death on the cross is a symbol of how much Jesus was willing to give in order to bring justice and peace and not a sacrifice for sins.

Secular humanists believe that since man evolved, human nature is good, perfectable, has unlimited potential, and is in the constant process of becoming. He is capable of development and fulfillment here and now through his own actions and does not need a savior.Because of this ability, man needs to have the freedom to self actualize which (since their ethics is the ethics of relativism) includes all kinds of experimental and alternate lifestyles.
