He knows the teaching, he simply thinks he knows better than the church.
He is wrong on the civil unions, as well.
Vatican Document On Homosexual UnionsHomosexual unions are totally lacking in the biological and anthropological elements of marriage and family which would be the basis, on the level of reason, for granting them legal recognition. Such unions are not able to contribute in a proper way to the procreation and survival of the human race. The possibility of using recently discovered methods of artificial reproduction, beyond involving a grave lack of respect for human dignity,(15) does nothing to alter this inadequacy.
CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING PROPOSALS TO GIVE LEGAL RECOGNITION TO UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS
I’m sure God will be happy to know this.
There is a short news piece on it on Gloria.TV (in English).
The funny part about it was that the first half of the interview (21 mins long) was talking about the Williamson controversy. My German is REALLY rusty, but if I understood it correctly, Zollitsch was defending the Holy Father. The interview was aired on Holy Saturday (April 11th), and the (self-admitted) unbeliever interviewer was filling some time and asking about the significance of Easter...and then His Excellency comes out with this garbage...
“Me thinks he needs to go back and re-read the Catechism one more time.”
Me thinks he needs to go back and re-read the Bible one more time, assuming he’s ever bother to read God’s Holy Word in the first place.
Fortunately he's in the minority.
Wow. Somebody was asleep through most of seminary I see.

Maybe asleep. More likely he just thought he was/is smarter than they were. You know, the old “I am too smart to believe any of this nonsense” attitude.
I am sure he is wrong on many things, however, from these incomplete quotes it is hard to conclude if his atonement theology is heretical or merely one-sided.
What’s that I smell? A whiff of Liberation Theology, perhaps? Popping up like weeds everywhere these days, and sadly leading lots of faithful astray. The Bishop needs a swift rebuke. I’m guessing the timing for the Easter season and the Pope’s birthday is purely coincidental? (not)
I had to do that and I was not at that time even Catholic! (I had a lot of help from Catholic friends though which, with the Nuns, probably got me where I am today.)
I recall a Ghost Walk in York that stopped at the York Minster where the Archbishop of Canterbury had preached on *Do we need a personal God?* That night the Minster was struck by lightning and the Rose Window destroyed. Said the young man doing the tour, in a very dry tone, *It was, it seems, Gods personal opinion THAT WE DO.*
Methinks somebody better buy a hat with a lightning rod on top.
