I wish he would be “recalled to Rome” and then sort of wither away.
Well, look... Something about this man’s title bothered me. President of a large prestigious university, and his title is only Father? I would have thought he would have been made a Monsignor at the least.
For those of you who are non-catholics, Monsignor is a largely ceremonial title, given to respected and cherished Fathers who have acheived some level of status beyond simply that of parish priest. It reflects the fact that not every great priest will become a bishop, but nevertheless many among the ranks do perform outstanding service to Our Lord and the congregation.
The fact that he had not been elevated to the title raises many questions for me. It would seem that he would receive it just to recognize his rank at the University, unless someone was standing in the way. Methinks he has made some enemies along the way.
I don't think that priests who are members of religious orders (such as the Congregation of the Holy Cross, of which Fr. Jenkins is a member) receive the title of Monsignor.

Ah! You learn something new every day, especially when you’re a relatively new Catholic. I’ll keep that in mind.
The exception to the general rule is when priests of religious orders also are bishops, as bishops may make use of the title “Monsignor.”

Bumping. Very interested in seeing what comes of this.
Why does the president of ND need his own plane?
He wanted the fake Ivy Catholic college setting to appear intellectual and
sophisticated. Hence, the blasphemous biblical metaphors in his speech.
I think I’ll add him to the end of my list.
I love him, but that’s probably because when he was assigned to Houston, before he took over as Archbishop, he attended a funeral for a priest at the church I was singing and taking RCIA at, and I got to stand around in the narthex and chew the fat with him for a while. Really nice, down to earth fellow. And then he preached at the diocesan Rite of Election, the man can flat out PREACH. I think it’s very important for Bishops to be able to preach. I know they’re largely administrators, but the basic skill set for being the Pastor includes preaching.
Agree!
He is #12 on the list -- because he is a "D" -- DiNardo...
12. Cardinal Daniel DiNardo - Houston, TX
D'Arcy is the only exception -- since is the Bishop for Notre Dame -- he is at the top of the list...
But the LifeSiteNews.com list has always had Cardinal DiNardo...
It is just a very long list these days...
April 23, 2009 Update on Notre Dame's Fr. Jenkins' trip to DCUPDATE, 4/23, 7a: Per American Papist, Notre Dame's plane flew back to South Bend last night, according to FlightAware:

An AmP reader wondered if the prodigal son were returning home. The prodigal son in Jesus' parable only realized he was a prodigal when he ran out of money. So we shall see, because while speculation was Jenkins flew to DC to meet with President Abortion, AmP reported yesterday:
Now an informed source tells me that Fr. Jenkins is in town for a multi-day seminar/symposium for high level Notre Dame donors, which has been planned for some time now and involves several speakers and events. Because the activities are private, they were not "advertised" to the wider public. What timing. Hopefully some of those donors closed their checkbooks.

UPDATE, 4/22, 8:20a: The Notre Dame Observer News is denying on Twitter that Fr. Jenkins met with Barack Obama at the White House yesterday:
Note: even though the Notre Dame Observer News is denying that Father Jenkins met with President Obama, it does not mean that Father Jenkins did not go to the Whitehosue to discuss the issue with Whitehouse staff.
It would be unlikely for Obama to met with Father Jenkins at this point -- regardless...
At least, that is in my opinion.
The meeting of the full Board of Trustees and Board of Fellows this coming Friday is far more important...
Interesting developments. It’s great to know some people on the inside, huh?
