'HELL ON EARTH'- German Bishop Links Nazi Crimes to Atheism
Speigel Online ^ | 04/13/2009 | Markus Becker

In an Easter sermon that has drawn widespread criticism, the Catholic bishop of Augsburg has linked the crimes committed under Nazi and Communist regimes to atheism. Atheist groups have reacted with fury and accuse the cleric of rewriting history.

A Catholic German bishop has come under fire for his remarks condemning atheists. In a sermon given on Easter Sunday, the bishop of Augsburg, Walter Mixa, warned of rising atheism in Germany. "Wherever God is denied or fought against, there people and their dignity will soon be denied and held in disregard," he said in the sermon. He also said that "a society without God is hell on earth" and quoted the Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky: "If God does not exist, everything is permitted."

Most controversially, he linked the Nazi and Communist crimes to atheism. "In the last century, the godless regimes of Nazism and Communism, with their penal camps, their secret police and their mass murder, proved in a terrible way the inhumanity of atheism in practice." Christians and the Church were always the subject of "special persecution" under these systems, he said.

[...]

The Easter sermon was not the first time that Mixa has made comparisons to Nazism for rhetorical purposes. In February, the bishop compared the number of Jews murdered during the Holocaust with the number of abortions performed over the past decades, according to a newspaper report. The bishop's spokesman also responded to criticism of Mixa from Germany's leading Green Party politician, Claudia Roth, who called the bishop a "crazy über-fundamentalist," by comparing her words to Nazi propaganda.

I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober.

2 Timothy 4:1-5

God Bless Bishop Mixa.

What most atheists seem to forget is that the whole point of totalitarian regimes promoting atheism is to bankrupt the moral values of the population so as to better get them on board with their extremist agendas because atheism is a convenient tool they use to manipulate the people into adopting “moral relativism” which the ideological destruction of the concept of God does.

Is it legitimate to tar all religious people with the crimes of some in the past and present? A great many vocal atheists seem to think so.

If this is the case, it is equally legitimate to hold all anti-religious people to be tainted by the actions of some with this ideology.

If we do, we find that anti-religious people have killed a great many more people than religious zealots, despite the fact that they had a lot less time to do their work in.

In addition, the vast majority of innocent people killed by religious zealots, especially by Christians, were killed upwards of 200 years ago. Anti-religious people did the majority of their killing in the last 100 years, primarily since 1917. During this limited time span, their toll is upwards of 125M people.

I think a lot of groups don’t like to acknowledge their existence depends on people different from themselves carrying the water to keep society afloat so they can survive and thrive. This is the case with atheists living on the legacy of a Christian nation which wants to save them rather than execute them, with welfare recipients depending on the existence of overtaxed workers still being willing to work, with airport and intersection beggars depending on workers to give them their spare change, with illegals depending of Americans honoring their laws and giving them rights, with socialists nations depending on a capitalist nation to defend them in the international arena, with anarchists living in the basements of their bourgoisie parents. They bite the hand that feeds them and will someday wonder what happened that the hands are no longer there to be bitten. Atheists in particular are guilty of living on the legacy of God-fearing, God-loving society and thinking they created the benevolent society.

On another note, I read recently the truism that those who have tried to create a heaven on earth without God have only managed to create a hell on earth.

Actually, the Bishop is wrong.

Nazi crimes were the result of paganism. National Socialism was an occultic theocracy.

Communist crimes stemmed from atheism

You’re assuming that the Bishop is being quoted accurately and in proper context by Spiegel.

You nailed it. Revisionism shouldn't have that kind of power, but it does.

But only for so long. Revisionism will last until reality sets in and reality sets in a generation or two after the foundation of civilization is dissed. We are seeing/reaping the effect right now with Obama worship.

Nietzsche was a flaming atheist.

Nietzsche was a preferred philosopher of Nazism. His “superman” theory fed directly into the eugenics and Aryan directions of Nazism.

Therefore, while individual Nazis were Germans, and were generally members of either the Catholic or Lutheran churches, the undergirdings of their political philosophy were atheistic.

The same way as atheistic humanism infects Christianity via the culture and results in the murder of innocent babies with a chorus of approving churches.

Karl Marx can be tied to Spinoza who is widely credited as being the father of atheism. Both Spinoza and Marx were not only jews, but from families with holy rank of rabbi. They were both sons guilty of high rebellious apostacy to their fathers and their faith. Spinoza was disowned by his family and an official curse cast against him from out of the holy cabala book. Spinoza never married, had no children, became striken with blindness , and died an early painful death. His writing simmered underground for centuries because it was condemned as heresy, which is why Atheism much like homosexuality is long held to a closet belief system that hides its true identity from the public.

Revisionism will last until reality sets in

That's what happened in the Soviet Union. People began to read between lines and discern truth as somewhat opposite of what they were being told.

Amazing that Voltaire parodied him, being an atheist of some note himself. Goes to show that there are theological differences even among atheists.

The Iron Curtain came down when the Communists could no longer avoid their collision with reality. For that reason, the chances of a repeat of something like Cuba, North Korea or the Soviet Union in terms of being prison nations are small. The real danger is ignorance of creeping socialism and the effect of socialism as the opiate of the masses. If people are satisfied their immediate wants can be met with big government, then they will cede their liberties to get it. As my husband constantly reminds me, people forget that Nazi was short for National Socialists (aka “big government”) and it initially had the same cloying attraction that ObamaCare has now for too many American citizens.
