Indeed the early Church fathers did pick and choose what would comprise the New Testament. It was a close call on the Gospel of Thomas, just as Revelation had its detractors.

Yep, they changed their minds several times over the years and decades. Some books were in then out, then back in again. I guess the Holy Spirit couldn't decide what which books were Divine.
