Actually if one believes in the gap theory of Gen 1-2 then it can explain the old universe and the new creation.

Old Earth, or old universe is an abuse of physics and cosmology.

If the Universe expanded, then time expanded too!

Its dishonest to pretend not to understand this.

People would be wise not to question the literal interpretation of our Bible. If its in the Bible, its the Word of God

Quoting from "Job: A Comedy of Justice" by Robert A. Heinlein (context: the main character is from an alternate history in which the USA is a Christian theocracy):

Another matter was a pet project of my own: the frustrating of astronomers. Few laymen realize what mischief astronomers are up to. I first noticed it when I was still in engineering school and took a course in descriptive astronomy under the requirements for breadth in each student's program. Give an astronomer a bigger telescope and turn him loose, leave him unsupervised, and the first thing he does is to come down with pestiferous, half-baked guesses denying the ancient truths of Genesis.

There is only one way to deal with this sort of nonsense: Hit them in the pocketbook! Redefine 'educational' to exclude those colossal white elephants, astronomical observatories. Make the Naval Observatory the only one tax free, reduce its staff, and limit their activity to matters clearly related to navigation. (Some of the most blasphemous and subversive theories have come from tenured civil servants there who don't have enough legitimate Work to keep them busy.)

Self-styled 'scientists' are usually up to no good, but astronomers are the worst of the lot.

(end quote)

Sound familiar?

Sorry but I don’t think there’s anything “evolutionary” about believing in an old Earth or old universe, and I don’t think old-Earth creationism conflicts with the story of Genesis in any way. There is no reason to be absolutely, categorically sure that those days were literal days or that they were consecutive. Nothing about the Creation of the universe or of the Earth or of life is diminished by holding to an ancient universe or ancient Earth.

I don’t see it as “compromising” or “bending” or anything of the sort. Just because two separate theories, evolution and old-Earth creationism, call for an ancient universe and old earth, doesn’t necessarily mean that they have anything to do with each other. And it also doesn’t mean that old-Earth creationists believe that *people* have been around for eons.

I used to think that the earth is 6000 years old without question; however, I'm now open on the question. I AM certain that we are the result of special, created acts and NOT evolution. I came across a site with an explanation of an "old universe" and "old earth". I don't know if it's 100% truth or not, but I've found it quite thought provoking. It's not a scientific treatise; however, it does explain early Genesis verse by verse for those of you who question how one could read Genesis and not believe in a "young earth".

A program on NRB, last night, was talking about how evolutionists believe birds evolved from reptiles and went on to explain and show electron microscope pictures proving such is totally impossible. Also, NG, a few years ago had an article about fossil proof found in China regarding reptile to bird evolution. Turns out, the dumb Chinese had pulled a funny on NG with a homemade fossil. NG had to do a retraction but hid the retraction in the last pages of an issue, in very small print. They just cannot admit Darwinian evolution has no scientific basis

You always single out evolution, but what of the other branches of science that conflict with the Bible? Meteorology, Geology, Geography, Biology, Zoology, Astronomy, etc. Wouldn’t they all be invalid in your eyes as well?
