THE SOUTHERN Baptist Convention voted June 20 to adopt a resolution renouncing its racist roots and apologizing for its past defense of slavery.

They did that 14 years ago.
Um, this is from 1995 OMM...
Are you guys really getting this desperate?
PING!!!!
GF ping the team, the just GOTTA see this one...
I wonder when the Mormons will apologize for THEIR racist past?
I believe this is the only thread I have seen posted by OMM.
I imagine it will be rather thin gruel, LOL.
Mormon and Black: Grappling with a racist past
The Southern Baptist Convention was founded in 1845. This statement was made in 1995. One hundred and fifty years.
The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter-day Saints was founded in 1820. The Mormon project Spencer Kimball received the revelation allowing blacks into the Melchizidek Priesthood in 1978. One hundred and fifty-eight years.
If it is his only one then it was worth the wait!!!
Worth the price of admission no matter the cost!
LOL...
Yes
It's also good to remember that while there were a great many southern Baptists fighting to keep their state sovereignty and way of life there were also a great many northern Baptists fighting to free men from the abomination of slavery and to keep the union together.
And by my count that is 17 years ahead of the SBC. Of course, we didn’t have segregated churches either.
8-)
Smile and happy revenge post.
Yep - and they STILL have not apologized!
Milk before meat.
A good point. The SBC has apologized and repented for any institutionalised racism in their past. The LDS has not repented or apologized as if there was any remorse - they just changed the rules.
OMM, why don't you take the lead, since you're now taking the lead on posting 1995 stories for us [we know, "breaking news" means a lil' bit different up on some mountain tops]...anyway, perhaps you could take the lead in apologizing on behalf of the LDS church for its racist past.
That "tidbit" seemed to be a bit missing from Kimball's 1978 manifesto. [Why is it every LDS manifesto forgets to express sorrowful regreat over past social campaigns such as polygamy & racism?]
better question is when is the Democratic Party going to apologize for their racist past!
That IS a good question.
I have a question: if a group decides to make an apology for collective sins made before those making the apology were ever born does that same group get to take credit for the good things the group did prior to its current members being born?
Personally speaking it makes about as much sense to me for anyone living nowadays to apologize for U.S. slavery as it does for anyone living nowadays to take credit for the abolition of slavery.
LOL!
