Fr. John Corapi, S.O.L.T.
As many of you know, Fr. Corapi has been ill for some time. I believe this may be his first live appearance in quite some time.
Yesterday I saw something that struck me as out of place, or, perhaps, just the normal secular distortion of religion—imagine that! It was a passing note on a news broadcast, I believe, noting that “the somber and dark period of Lent has now begun.” I think they may have been comparing it to the mayhem and general debauchery that often takes place in certain places prior to Lent at Mardi Gras.
My dear friends, Lent is not a “somber and dark period.” I think at times, even among Catholics and other Christians, that notion has drifted about. Lent is the most hope-filled time we have, culminating in the blaze of glory that is Easter. It is the period of preparation for the Lord’s Paschal sacrifice. It is a time for penance and prayer, alms giving, and other works of virtue and charity. Most of all, it is a time to recall God’s infinite love and mercy for us, manifested in the life, mission, death, and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We recall, at all times, but especially during the holy season of Lent, that “even if our sins be as scarlet, they can be made whiter than snow, washed by the Blood of the Lamb.” Perhaps some of the folks that think Lent is a “somber and dark period,” also think that the sacrament of Penance or Confession is also somehow in the same category. How wrong they are. The great sacrament of Reconciliation is a sense perceptible manifestation of God’s love and mercy that effects (causes to happen) what it signifies. It takes away the guilt of sin. It reconciles the sinner (that’s every one of us) to God. It unburdens the heart, mind, and soul. In short, it is a cause for the greatest joy! Lent is filled with the Light Who is Christ.
Have a blessed and joyous Lent, knowing that God’s mercy and love are there for all of us—and GO TO CONFESSION!
God bless you,
Fr. John Corapi
Thanks for the info, setting my tivo now as I have to teach ccd tonight.
I’ll have to tape it as well, but it should be interesting.
That's news to us....any details?
From another blog, dated April 7, 2008:
Father Corapi has a parathyroid tumor and will be going back to the Mayo Clinic next week for surgery. It's a very rare (1:167,000 men get it) tumor, which 98% of the time not cancerous. The good news is they ruled out lymphoma, which is what they thought he had. He goes through great detail explaining and extolling the Mayo Clinic, his tests, and our obligation to keep our bodies as healthy as we can. He also said for the past 7 months he was too sick to get out bed 70% of the time; intense exhaustion with flu-like symptoms (a result of the excess calcium this type of tumor causes, in addition to osteoporosis). Surgery is the only cure.

“It’s on now” bump!
Just turned it on.
Glad he is touching on the bill in Connecticut.
Truth to power. Europe will soon be Muslim and they will not have to fire a shot.
Fr. is hitting this out of the ballpark.
I’m watching know, wow!
I mean now.
Thanks for posting. The show aired on DishNetwork out here in California at 10:00pm, and I read your post at 10:07. So I missed only the first few minutes. Great timing!!
Good show, too. It was cool to see Father Pacwa and Father Corapi together on the same stage (set). They hit every pitch out of the park.
I came across it by fortuitous channel-surfing; my tv has no picture, thanks to a massive blackout that destroyed several of my electronic devices but I recognized his voice immediately and settled down to pay attention. I never miss Fr. C. when he is on, when I am home. The Church needs more plain-spoken priests who can tell the people what we need to hear and know in the everyday words we use. Most especially we need more like both these excellent priests who will say THIS IS WRONG when necessary.
I’m sorry to hear that, I didnt realize he was ill, he’s a blessing and treasure for us and I will keep him in my prayers. I will be looking for the re-airing of this program.
Amen to that! He really says it like it is. Many of us have had the pleasure of hearing him speak in public and he's even more charismatic.
