I have noticed it very frequently with those that we debate with. The further the divergence from Christianity, the more Scripture and the more Church Fathers that are edited from their playbook. I have noticed that the Reformed (for instance) can retreat from a daylight examination of their misinterpreted Pauline beliefs back into the OT, including Isaiah and Psalms, rendering the Gospels irrelevant for the support of Reformed theology.
There are other hangers-on who semi ally with them that varyingly agree and then disappear for a while. Iscool’s Church of Iscool (population 1) is an interesting entity. There are some Sundays when the storming snow and sleet and ice are blocking the road down to church when I sort of envy the idea of having a LaZBoy in the living room with a tall and potent adult beverage in the armrest serving as a church pew. Good on ya, Iscool. :)
