Based on what I know about the Anon 11:51 situation, our discipline committee is acting more like a gestapo, as someone posted yesterday. A man is accused of being divisive in the church through blogging, so the committee as a first step of "reconciliation and restoration"... writes a letter outlining the sins, attaches a trespass warrant banning the man AND his wife from the property until they meet with the committee. I haven't yet found that part of the church discipline process yet in Matthew 18, but maybe its in the Greek text that only Mac himself understands. The committee then sends two of the most long time tenured staff members to the man's house on Thanksgiving Eve, one of them his former Sunday School teacher he says, to deliver the letter, with no explanation. The man immediately replies (he has given me the copy of his reply letter) he will gladly meet with them if he can get the bylaws in advance to understand his rights and the committee's function, and if he can bring representation. By the way, the man explained in his reply to the committee that they wished to see their daughter sing this past Wednesday night and desired the tresspass warnings to be removed, but the man says the committee refused unless he and his wife FIRST met with the committee without the bylaws being provided, and without any representation, prior to the Wednesday night service. So the man said he and his wife complied with the trespass warnings and did not attend the services with their daughter.

I am not the blogger person.
Isn’t Free Republic stirring the pot on lots of topics?
You’re saying because it is a church matter it should not be discussed here? That is logical. /sarc
I guess clergy sexual abuse of their members should not be discussed in the open either.
I did not post something that was private. The information was already public.
I am not the blogger.
I believe the person is wanting to point out some things he/she believes are nonBiblical and secretive/deceptive for example that money is being mishandled and not spent on budgeted items. There are other things as well.
If you don’t have something to say on topic there are lots of other threads here.
What do you mean “connectional church”? I haven’t heard that term before.
You’re a troll. You signed up today solely to damage the leadership of that church. You may not be the blogger, but I doubt you are unconnected to the complainers.
Connectional churches are churches with multiple levels of governance and appeal - say Classis and Synod, or Presbytery and General Assembly.
They are distinguished from churches with congregational forms of government (such as the Baptists) or episcopal forms of government (Episcopal, Catholic, Anglican)
If the church served the wrong person, then the person wrongly accused should make that fact known to the church leadership. It’s not clear to me that they have gotten the wrong person. I doubt that they picked a church member at random.
Folks can have legitimate disagreements with church leadership. Public blogs are NOT an appropriate way to handle them.
Well guess what you are wrong. I’ve watched how new people are treated here. It appears to me that about 99% think they are so sure that a new person signs up just to start trouble.
Guess what? I don’t know anyone in the situation. As I posted previously I doubt seriously that you only post items that pertain to you personally. Get a grip.
This is a forum. Lots of things are posted and people are not accused of being associated with the people in the article or accused of posting to be harmful. Oh, wait, that only applies to new people.
Quit casting stones. Do you always go on threads to accuse people or just newbies? Are you able to post on topic?
That's a mods call. Are you a mod already?
There are many congregations that are going though the same as FBJ. Just go to the web site and check out the links to other Southern Baptist churches.
There is a pattern to this pastor dictatorial mess.
It’s not my church.
It is a SBC mega church, First Baptist , Jacksonville FL. Their local paper did a piece today but it didn’t mention the discipline committee action.
Well one thing is for sure, I think they do need prayer. I think it is a really sad situation to be honest.
You are trolling a thread when you disrupt it whether you’ve been here a long time or not.
Back off NOW! or your stay af FreeRepublic will be short.
Not sure why you are so wound up about this. Are you a former member?
Their local paper did a piece today but it didnt mention the discipline committee action.
I read the piece yesterday. Sounds like Pastor Brunson needs a hug. Also went to the FBC website linked from your blog and read Jim Smyrls piece on Catholics. What a moron.
I don’t know. It just seems to me that both sides have not done the right thing if one is referring to the Bible for instruction. Do you ever wonder if you are the only one who thinks the way you do? You bounce something off someone else sometimes?
I am more wound up about other things than this, like is Obama a natural born citizen.
People make mistakes, church leadership included.
Dictatorial sure does sound like a good word for it.
What is really bad is the churches where there were pastors sexually abusing members and it was covered up. That makes one mad enough to spit! ( acutally do something more than spit! )
That is so unscriptural! There are a lot of people who should be ashamed for protecting pedophiles! I just would not want to be them when it’s time to meet God.
