The Martyrs of Cultural Conformity

Volition (n)- The act of making a choice.

I chose to ignore the beggar on the street holding the “God Bless You” sign. I set my eyes forward as I waited at the stoplight hoping not to gain eye contact. Beseeching the red light to quickly turn green, I wiggled my nose like a scene from Bewitched. Then, I coaxed my lack of sympathy with, “he’ll just use the money to buy alcohol.”

I chose to avoid my not-so-friendly coworker who was having another bad day. My mind told me I wouldn’t know what to say, so I left her alone. I walked by her desk swiftly as to imply “no encouragement for you today.” By lunch, I’d built up enough nerve to inquire. But, she left early that day. As I stood a second time by her now empty cubicle, I felt a bit glum having missed an opportunity.

I chose not to pray as I should because I’m just so busy. By the time I get home from work, change clothes, cook dinner and finally sit down to watch a little TV, I’m whipped! But, God understands, doesn’t He? I told myself I’d do better tomorrow, but tomorrow has not yet come.

Sometimes the choice of inaction has consequences stronger than we could ever imagine. Throughout history, men have been faced with difficult choices in a world that makes it easy for them to conform. [But] there is a hope that lies behind every decision made in the face of adversity; the hope that is buried in the heart of those that look beyond themselves and see something bigger worth fighting for.

Can you relate? This time, you can choose to take action. Watch video here.

A truly stunning pro-life film that everyone should see. It is only 15 about minutes long and is available on the internet at http://www.thedoorpost.com/hope/film/?film=420351f1aefa2b42b1772fe9d5cc044a

I drive by the cardboard-sign career guy, roll down my window, and CHOOSE to speak truth: "I don't believe you."

If he's there with his "wife" I say, "you should be ashamed of yourself!"

If he's really good and faking a limp, I just laugh and laugh.

Oh Ms. Kim, I apologize. I did not see the “religion” tag.

My remarks are better suited to political discussion.

I am sorry.
