Anger over gay marriage vote directed at Mormons

Supporters of gay marriage, frustrated over a ballot-box defeat in California, have channeled much of their anger toward the towering white spires of Mormon temples.

For months, the Mormon church sought to portray itself as just one member of a coalition of Catholics, evangelicals, black Protestants and others supporting Proposition 8, a measure to stop gay marriage in California.

Some opponents of the measure sought to dispel that in the campaign's final weeks, pointing to extensive Mormon organizing and the staggering amount of money donated by individual Mormons at the behest of church leaders in Salt Lake City.

Since the measure's passage last week, media outlets reported chants of "Mormon scum" and slurs against church founder Joseph Smith at a demonstration outside a Los Angeles-area temple, and a church meeting-house was vandalized. More Mormon-specific protests are in the works.

What a bunch of bigots! Why pick on the Mormons when most other religions in the world also condemn homosexuality?

But they also say Mormon money funded irresponsible ads, like one suggesting young children would be required to learn about homosexuality in schools.

So now it's "irresponsible" to point out the truth?

If the queers keep this up with the violence and vandalism and the threats to people who donated to support the prop then there will be a new program on cable: “Black Eye for the Queer Guy”.

I guess us republicans should start trashing polling stations and Obama donators because we did not get what we wanted.

These people are really starting to piss me off...

The end of the article said — “The evangelical mantra that Mormons aren’t Christian — as well as this year’s raid in Texas of a polygamist sect, a group not always distinguished from mainstream Mormonism — feeds into that, he said.”

Well, the Evangelicals are right, in that Mormons do *not* teach basic, historic and foundational Christianity. Mormons say that *this* teaching of Christianity is corrupt and is not valid and only *they* (i.e., the Mormons) have the true Gospel. Well, that’s garbage and not true. But, it *does show* that the Mormons *recognize* that they are teaching a *different Gospel* than the traditional teaching of the historic, basic Christian Church. They can’t deny that. And hence, that’s what causes Evangelicals to denounce the Mormons as not teaching Christianity.

It goes on and says — “Richard Davis, a political science professor at church-owned Brigham Young University, said intolerance of Mormons extends from the secular left to the religious right. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Mormonism was attacked by some evangelicals — Mormon allies on Proposition 8.”

This so-called “intolerance” is just “spin language” to try and say that the basic, historic Christian teachings cannot be *distinguished* from *false teachings* of other cult groups. A “cult group” in the Christian context is *any group* that teaches anything other than the historic, basic and foundational Christian teachings — given over the centuries.

And finally — “That’s where the LDS church is right now,” Davis said, “despite years of efforts to improve the image of the church.”

Well, there is *no image* to improve — if — they are *not teaching* basic, historic and foundational Christian doctrines and teachings from the Bible (which they clearly admit, by their “denouncing” of these doctrines) that they are not!

There’s no image at all to improve — in the sense that they *try* to “make out” like they are a “Christian Group”. They are not..., they are a Mormon Group, pretending to be “Christian” but denying all the basic, historic and foundational teaching (by their own words and their own *denouncements* of historic Christianity being *defective*).

However, having said all that, if *any group* wants to denounce gay marriage, then the Christians are right in there, too...

As someone who likes Mitt Romney, this kind of stuff puts me off him. Whether justified or not— in cases like this, Romney comes off as too cautious at best, and calculating at worst.

Hellooooo they’re attacking you’re religion. You’re against gay marriage. Why are you silent? Say something for goodness sakes.

True on every point. The Muslims opposed Prop 8.

Mormons don’t kill gays. Gays fear Muslims.

The Mormon Church has been under massive persecution by the democrat party and the media since the destruction of Mitt Romney’s campaign (who would President today, had the media not have been allowed to choose thr far weaker McCain).

The gay mafia has now joined in the persecution.

There are only about 13 million Mormons worldwide.

Mormons have not retaliated against their attackers with shootings, bombings or beheadings or even with much in the way of harsh language.

Mormons are considered by many to be outside the mainstream of Christianity and therefore are not as likely to see Christians rally to their support.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been tarred as a racist organization even though all barriers to full membership and participation in the church were removed 30 years ago so there probably won’t be many blacks (who supported prop 8 by a large margin) coming to the defense of the church.

Mormons vote overwhelmingly Republican so democrat politicians and the leftist press will not give them much, if any, support or protection.

So naturally homosexuals are fearless in their assault on the Mormons and on their church.

You will likely never see these same fearless crusaders do anything even remotely like these protests in black neighborhoods or at a mosque.

Just think, your superior church probably sat at home and did nothing to stick up for families and morals. You probably managed to preach about it though.

On today's show, Rush Limbaugh said that some Prop 8 opponents were openly blaming black voters for its passage, using the N-word to describe them.

You are a bigot and an ignorant fool.

The truth is "bigoted" I guess. No Mormon would deny "that Mormons do *not* teach basic, historic and foundational Christianity."

Why do Mormon bashers keep harping that same line?

Every religion considers their religion to be the best and most perfect definition of God's will. That's sort of the point of having a separate religion.

After all, if the Baptists thought the Catholics had a better understanding of God's will and they had a better chance of reaching heaven by being Catholics, why would they stay Baptist?

Christians, regardless of denomination, do themselves no favors with their silly ill-mannered warm lemonade contests. I don't know about the rest of you folks, but I am heartily sick of it.

freeplancer said — “Just think, your superior church probably sat at home and did nothing to stick up for families and morals. You probably managed to preach about it though.”

while scory said — “You are a bigot and an ignorant fool.”

There is a big distinction between the teachings of historic, basic and traditional Christianity as taught over the ages, versus the teachings of the Mormon Church (which are non-Christian, admittedly said by Mormon’s themselves...).

That, being said — has nothing to do with political action and voting on gay marriage, other than two *different* groups (i.e., Christians and Mormons) find themselves in the same ball park on that one political issue. And that’s fine.

But, that does not mean that any Christian who believes and trusts in the basics of Christianity and its teachings over the centuries has to agree with Mormon doctrines and teachings which are decidedly non-Christian.

Don’t get the two mixed up and it’s not bigoted to make *firm distinctions* between the two... That’s what all Christians are commanded to do in searching out the Scriptures (of the Bible that we’ve been given, consisting of those 66 books written by 44 authors of God’s Word) — to find the truth of that Word.

Oh, and talk about what the “Christian Church” did in Oklahoma, I would say that it produced the biggest win for the McCain-Palin ticket of all the states in the United States that went for the Republican ticket — the absolute biggest percentage with 66% of the vote for it.

You can thank the “worldview” that is produced in Oklahoma from those various historic, basic and foundational Christian churches and all their members. That spills over, very obviously, in the political arena, as we can see in Oklahoma...

This is not “denominationalism” that we’re talking about here. This goes *across the board* for most all Christian denominations and forms the “core message” of Christianity, regardless of the denomination that we’re talking about.

They are pretty much all in agreement on the basic, foundational and historic Christian faith, teachings and doctrines (not about church governance and some other minor, non-salvation issues).

The Mormons, on the other hand, reject — out of hand — those basic, historic and foundational Christian teachings and doctrines, saying that they are defective and not true — that only *they* have the true teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So, they — by their own “denouncements” of historic, basic and foundational Christianity have put themselves in that separate category.

However, *while* doing that — they also seek to be perceived as “just another denomination” of Christianity — which they are not. They are a cult group — something that you wouldn’t have one Christian denomination say about another Christian denomination — but you do say it about Mormon teachings and doctrines. Thus — there’s the difference. It’s simply *not Christian* teaching and doctrine.

For example, I don’t know of any mainline and historic Christian denomination which would say that Jesus is the spirit brother of Lucifer. But, the Mormons do. That’s just a *minor point* — given all their other teachings which are *not* Christian teachings.

As far as Christianity, in general is concerned (not “denominations”...), it is *exclusive* in that Jesus Christ says that it’s only *He* (himself) that is the way to God and that there is *no other way* (not “no other denomination”). It’s *only* Jesus Christ, as the One we’re given in the Bible that is the *only way* to salvation — and that’s *not* the spirit brother of Lucifer (i.e., Satan) either... LOL...
