One woman say that they will be ordained to the priesthood and three to the diaconate during a WomanPriests ceremony at a Chicago-area United Church of Christ-- despite the clear teaching of the Church that these 'ordinations' are null and void, and the participants in the ceremony are guilty of sacrilege. Cardinal [Francis] George could declare that those persons have been excommunicated by the law itself, but they are excommunicated whether the cardinal declares them so or not, said an archdiocesan spokeswoman.
Barbara Zeman, who will receive priestly ordination, earned her masters degree in theology from Loyola University in Chicago and has served as lector and extraordinary minister. Chicago Tribune reporter Margaret Ramirez begins her highly sympathetic coverage with an appeal to the emotions: On the window ledge of her Edgewater apartment, where she prays, Barbara Zeman keeps a cross, a pile of sacred books and a small, plush black sheep. Zeman said the sheep is a symbol of women's exclusion from priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church. But Zeman and others are fighting to change their black-sheep status by taking the bold step of ordaining themselves.
"I am disobeying an unjust law. I am following my conscience, and I am obeying God's call," said Zeman, 60, who also is studying to become a hospital chaplain. "I'm not doing this for myself. I'm doing this for the generations of women to come, because I don't want those women to have the fight that I've had."
Woman hears call to priesthood - But in Catholic Church, price is excommunication
Puhhlllleeeaaassseee!!!!
And isn't that supposed to be "womynpriest"? Maybe not . . . ;-)
I am so tired of this garbage. There are no women priests. Period. What is wrong with these people? Sheesh!
These diseased minds will attempt to liken their struggle for the right to vote. Look for them to attempt litigation at some point to reverse this longstanding ban.
Pathetic. Functionally equivalent to me declaring myself a Democrat. They remind me of the Westboro “Baptists”that no Baptists acknowledge any connection with.
If I decide to call a cowpie a porterhouse steak, would these silly twits eat it?
Where does the UCC get the nerve to to do this? The Vatican should sue the bleep out of them.
The bottom line is that Jesus only chose men as his Apostles. By ordaining themselves as priests, what these women are saying is that Jesus was wrong. So if Jesus was wrong, then he isn’t perfect. If he isn’t perfect, he’s not the Living God and therefore the rest is moot.
Now ... if a wymyn told them the cowpie was a porterhouse, the silly tw?ts would chow down.
“Why bless their little hearts. Aren’t they just precious. And here I thought Trick or Treating at their age was a bit flakey. But my goodness those costumes just have me in stitches. Quick hon go get some more loony pops for the girls and get your camera. Oh look here comes the Smedley’s dog all dressed up in a Bishop’s mitre. Would you like a biscuit Your Grace?”
Remember to have a safe and happy Halloween.
There once were some ladies whose mania
Was liturgical extemporanea.
Why just be priests?
They'll be bishops, at least
And I am the Queen of Romania!
Please henceforth address me as "Your Meshuggah Majesty..."
If they feel called to full time ministry- great! The harvest is plenty but the workers are few. There are plenty of churches offerring a variety of ways women may engage in full time ministry. If they don’t like the way one church allows women to engage in full time ministry, then try another.
Ten bucks says these women would want nothing to do with evangelical churches that do allow women to be pastors.
Meshuggah Majesty-
I am bowing down to your limerick writing ability. Brilliant!
Should I be in a serious car accident, God forbid, I hope the ER nurse won't be calling this clown for me. We deserve and I demand a real catholic priest.
