I wonder if Catholics/Christians started being attacked because they either started getting political are started evagilizing with their mouths instead of their actions.
Mother Teresa, her people, and the other Catholic missionaries got along fine for many decades with no unrest.
Mother Teresa didn’t get into politics and didn’t evangilize except by example.
Catholics are of course Christians, perhaps you meant Catholics/Protestants or Catholic/evangelicals?
According to the article, the murder was triggered by the killing of some Hindu’s, including a Hindu leader, killings that Maoists claimed responsibility for. The Hindu’s took it as an opportunity to kill the Catholics. What is an easier target, Maoists who fight back, or priests, nuns and Catholic families?
David Griffiths in todays Guardian has an article about the unrest, the murders and background behind it. It’s worth reading.
Let’s don’t blame the Christians for BEING attacked. Kind of like blaming the wife for getting beaten. Perhaps the radical Hindus are reacting to the Christ Within.
From what I've read, it seems to me that the Hindus are the ones getting political after years of Christian success. Extremists see Christian inroads among the lower castes as attacks on Hindu-ness.
