My experience then is that both the clergy and the Catholics on FR are made up almost exclusively of abnormal intellectuals.
There are several "questions", and several general topics, which I WILL NOT discuss in any detail on this forum. My reasons for this are good enough for me, and not any of anybody else's business. No apologies.
You can't even state whether or not you believe in Methushelach's age, or Noah's Flood, or the Tower of Babel? What's the difference between those things and the events described in the rest of the Bible? Just what is it about Genesis 1-11 that so sets it apart from everything else?
Would you answer my question in a private communication (which I cannot reveal to any other person without your express permission)?
What I have written, I have written.
So you're an ultra-rightwing Catholic who believes in "the miracle of the mass" and all the miracles of the NT and you can't in good conscience commit to believing that the first eleven chapters of Genesis are as historical as the rest of the Bible? You invoke the church fathers to "prove" the "real presence" while discounting what they say about creation because they were ignorant primitives? What do you expect me to conclude? How am I not supposed to be angry with this rankest hypocrisy?
The Bible is to Catholics what Mary is to Protestants--an object of hostility because it/she is so closely associated with "the other side."

Last time I checked, both Leviticus and Deuteronomy prohibit bearing false witness against your neighbour.
I won't attempt to speak for protestants; their motivations are a mystery to me. Your statement about Catholics contains two falsehoods. I can't assess your motivations for entering those falsehoods into this forum. I note, however, that the prohibition on bearing false witness is absolute.
Courtesy pings to Q and W.
You're asking for trouble reading those books. You might be tempted to take something literally without asking for the permission of some atheist "scholar" somewhere.

Perhaps they simply can't bear the intellectual dishonesty of believing in medieval miracles while simultaneously denying Biblical ones simply because of a grudge with Martin Luther.

What falsehoods? If you believed in the historicity of Genesis 1-11 you'd have answered my simple question. Your refusal to do so was a tacit admission. And you already told me once that you reject literal six day 6000-year creationism.
In order to bear false witness one must first say something that isn't true.
That is a falsehood.
You asserted that Catholics view the Bible as being "closely associated" with the "other side" (presumably protestants).
That is also a falsehood.
"Perhaps they simply" ... "tacit admission."
Your mind-reading skills are astonishing. I'll leave that bit entirely to you.

I read Genesis, Exodus, and Numbers, too. Among others. Oooooohhhhh ... Scaaaaaarrrrry.
