Ray Boltz, who sold about 4.5 million records before retiring from Christian music a few years ago, came out of the closet Friday to announce that he's gay.

Very sad, I had a missionary relative that did this same thing after serving on the mission field for so long.

I am coming out of the closet as one who does not care whether Ray Boltz is gay or not.
It is my hope he refrains from any homosexual practices. It is one thing to have homosexual tendencies. It is another, to practice them or believe they are okay before God.
As am I. And you’re right, but this can only hurt...not help.
Looks like his church pointed him in this direction.
seems like someone found a “talent” with a secret that could be controlled.
He bailed because his hypocracy was comming out far more than his sexual misconduct.
Are there any straight church musical directors?

Is anyone really surprised?
The worship pastor where I am a member is straight, married and has 2 children.
His wife plays the piano in the orchestra, too.
i wasn’t familiar with him, looked up albums and i must day
he looks gay. like obviously gay. however, i hope he and his wife
copes with situation and he continues to write the music he loves.
Not arguing, just talking:
Non-practicing homosexual is a contradiction in terms. Homosexuality is an activity.
Otherwise, one is tempted by sinful desires which we all are. But we don’t embrace rape, murder, theft, and proclaim that God embraces those things because we have strong desires for them.
So there’s no letting him off the hook that way. Every Christian fights temptation. But we mustn’t decide we’re tired of fighting, and try to cancel out God’s holiness and His word to accommodate our sin.
If we do that, God’s Word doesn’t change, but the credibility of the “I’m a Christian” claim does.

Saw that. The only thing of his I know I've heard is that "pledge allegiance to the lamb" thing, which grates on me in multiple ways.
Had a pastor come out once, many years after he was our pastor. Separated from his wife, left the full time ministry (has an occasional preaching gig at (what else) an ECUSA church). Claims to be celibate. I pray for him when I think of him.
My father served as the music director of a Methodist church in Whittier, Calif. for 27 years. After retiring, he became the music director at a Quaker church, a position he held at the time of his death. His marriage with my mother, who could sing and play the piano, lasted 53 years.
But he’s already divorced his wife... I’m thinking your hopes are dashed.
Is it cynical to think that he released this info AFTER selling millions of his recordings?
Well if he’s a Christian, he shouldn’t be giving in to his temptations. I pray he’ll be delievered from this and realize you can’t make it go away by saying it’s OK.
You are so cynical. But I agree with you.
That whole “God made me this way” is ridiculous. God made us sinners as well. That doesn’t mean we surrender to it.
