In the Jesuit mag, the columnists are all “seamless garment” types, equating Iraq with abortion and infanticide; the Church needs to come of one voice about this.

The church needs to ‘speak truth to power’.

It should not be cringing in fear of the powerful.

Ted Kennedy needs to have a pastor tell him it’s time to
prepare for eternity—and that means repenting publicly
of some of his political stances. (And to say that this
would be a lot better for him than any standing in the polls.)

And Pelosi, et. al., need to be told there are other churches out there if they don’t find the Catholic one a good fit; but they can’t keep publicly misleading the public with false statements about what the church teaches,
and remain in good standing with that church.

I agree with you. The Bishops have been pretty straight forward on this issue, the problem is a number of Jesuits and other Catholics don’t get it. I’ll admit though, a number of the so-called Peace and Justice Types voted for Bush in 2000 despite their liberal politics because of abortion. So there are many who may come across as liberal on these issues, but when push comes to shove, abortion is still a huge issues.
