At this point I believe his motivating factor is that he doesn't want to be remembered as the Archbishop of Canterbury who presided over the final dissolution of the Anglican Communion.
But it's definitely too late for that! The train is hurtling towards the open drawbridge, and he can pull the airbrake lever all he wants, but it won't do any good.
I agree with you. But it no longer matters to me; let those concerned with "the communion" sort it out. Unless they form something that adheres to the faith, I am not interested.
