When Gov. Alfred E. Smith ran for president in 1928, his candidacy was derailed in large part by anti-Catholic prejudice. It has been nearly 48 years since John F. Kennedy became the first (and so far only) Roman Catholic president, but experts say that anti-Catholic sentiment — much of it originating in, or as a response to, immigrants in New York — remains an enduring force in American culture.
That was the consensus of a panel assembled at the Museum of the City of New York on Tuesday night to consider the question, “Is Anti-Catholicism Dead?”
...The Rev. Richard John Neuhaus — a leading conservative intellectual, a former Lutheran pastor and the editor of the leading Catholic journal First Things — offered a surprising view on the question.
“To be a Catholic is not to be refused positions of influence in our society,” he said. “Indeed, one of the most acceptable things is to be a bad Catholic, and in the view of many people, the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic.”
...He added that anti-Catholicism was as likely to come from the left — sometimes from commentators who believe that a “threatening theological insurgency is engineered and directed by Catholics,” with evangelical Protestants merely as the movement’s “foot soldiers.”

Grandchildren are so wonderful. Makes me wish I’d been a grandma first and then had kids (LOL). Everyone should digitize or copy family photos AND MARK WHO THEY ARE. That’s the reason I started. I am doing photo albums for Christmas. Last year I did all the pictures I had of their father and his family. This year it will either be my mom’s family or my dad’s. I also copied each one of their photoes when they were very young. So cute. I’ve got about 15 boxes of pictures put together with different names on them so when I die, hubby will know who to give them to. I won’t put them in the computer.
I found some facts I never knew about my grandmother and her family through the Norway Heritage Community site. I asked for information and several people looked up the church books and other files and found a bunch of stuff for me. Exciting!

No. My assertion is ignorance because of inculturation in false doctrines in contrast to Catholics who are taught the Truth (mostly). Therefore Catholics are better equipped. It is not that Catholics are superior for sure.
I just turned 69. I’m on dialysis so I don’t have the strength I had a few years ago, plus heart trouble, and that has slowed me down. But I sure can stamp a kid’s hand with vigor, and they love it. I helped with some small details and bought donuts! Now THAT is really important, LOL.
I’ll remember to find it for you. I am watching a ballgame right now myself. I usually don’t post something I don’t have right in front of me but I did in this case.

Bad argument drives out good; and careless reading followed by protests when clarification is offered makes sure that misunderstanding will persist.
I won't say Protestants are uneducated. I will say there are a lot of non-Catholic freepers who don't seem to do the work necessary for understanding what the other side is saying. I can entertain the possibility that Mary neither ascended nor was assumed. I can certainly understand someone's believing neither. What I can't understand is someone debating or even contradicting the idea but confusing the terms.
But then I remember the word "parsing", which evidently means, "I don't care what I'm arguing against, I just want to argue against whatever it is."
I wonder if they don't prefer rbmillerjr's list of activities to real conversation and debate. Certainly whoever is wrong is not likely to find out once the harpies arrive.
Those are tradition things, imo. Like Christmas Eve dinner, 7 fishes. Tradition and honoring God. It’s an Italian Catholic thing, as far as I know. It’s our way of worshipping God during that time and keeping the Italian family thing. And all the Irish side comes too and expects the food so it’s good all around.
It’s not worshipping, just like praying the Rosary isn’t worshipping Mary, but honoring God and acknowledging Mary as His and our Mother. I don’t understand tons about the various protestant denominations but I don’t ridicule the beliefs either. One of my best friends is a black southern baptist (don’t dare call her african american, she’ll knock the hell out of you, lol). She celebrated my kids First Holy Communion at our parties. Sat in the pew at Church because it a huge deal for us.
She also helped care for my mother and helped with her basic needs as she was dying and was a friend to her while alive. Way more similarities than differences.
I don’t doubt you at all. I am concerned about the animosity I read.
I’ve seen some tough and fierce.
I don’t know that any are hardened.
I haven’t seen any I’d label as black-hearted.

And, I’m not, per se certain about any on the RC side though sometimes the evidence seems overwhelming.
Certainly, GOD KNOWS the thoughts and intents of the heart.
And NO rationalizations can even BEGIN before HIS FACE.
You are really too much. Catholics defend their Faith when it’s attacked, plain and simple. As for me I’ll defend the Church no matter who attacks it. The denomination of the attacker concerns me not at all. You’d be surprised at how much I DON’T care about your simple man made denomination!
