Then why do you single out Rome?
Oh yeah, I forgot, accoring to YOPIOS and sola Spurgeon Catholics are not Saved.
The verse derisively used as the foundation for the RC acronym “YPOIOS” apparently is 2 Peter 1:20. Taken in context, it’s clear that Peter is speaking to the church about those who claim to be apostles, claiming to have written scripture. There were many people running around claiming to be Christ and claiming to be an Apostle of Christ, putting forth their doctrine as that of the Lord. Such is what Peter was warning about. The RCC has twisted this Scripture - as it has done with so many others - into meaning that only the select group of RCC appointed men can understand Scripture. This is totally contrary to the Biblical instruction to believers to be students of the Word (2 Tim 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”)
Now then, you fall into the same error that you throw at reformed Christians - claiming to know what another thinks. This is “making it personal”, according to the rules of this forum. As for me, I have never made a categorical statement that RCs are not Christians - just as I have never made such statement about all Baptists being Christians; both statements are too broad and arrogant to be considered.
People get saved in spite of their religious training, not because of it.
As for Rome, I mentioned it because it’s contextually relevant to any discussion with an RC. There appears to be considerable obeisance by RCs toward Rome, just as there was by pagans towards Babylon many years ago.
YOPIOS and sola Spurgeon; really hateful, questionable websites.
