All moderators make judgment calls on duplicate threads. There is not a commandment carved in stone but generally one of the moderators on duty will pull an exact duplicate if it is posted too soon after the other one.

What constitutes 'soon' depends on the moderator, the forum, the news cycle, etc. A morning duplicate of a midnight post might or might not be pulled. A very similar thread on a breaking news item though not exactly duplicate, might be pulled. An earlier thread might be locked and linked to a later breaking news item - e.g. if the first was a headline and the second had the most activity. And so on.

Previously, the Religion Forum was not intermingled with News/Activism so we allowed some exact duplicates since the nature of religious debate is very different. Likewise we allowed some "caucus" articles to be duplicated for "open" debate.

With the forums intermingled that is no longer workable - so the handling of duplicates in News/Activism now applies to the Religion Forum.

So why is this duplicate and, if sevenbak's intention to post another duplicate is realized, being allowed?

Are any other confessions being granted the same kind of "special case" moderation during this experiment?

There has been plenty of time to evaluate whether those previous threads posted by sevenbak would attract an ecumenical discussion. With one or two exceptions, most of them didn't.

The fair thing would be to allow ALL the previous Talmage chapters that were posted as ecumenical to now be tagged as open, rather than let them stand on this forum unchallenged for all time to come.

That would do away with the necessity of "special case" decisions.
