the term “nephite” occurs no where in the canon of the Holy Scriptures, and is a term that occurs only in mormonism.
The term is therefore considered “extra-biblical”, or outside of Scripture. This is true of the books that comprise the Book of Mormon as well.
Interestingly, mormon theology believes there were giants. Given the origin of Mormonism in Upstate NY, this hoax is of amusing interest and reminiscent of the kinderhook plates
