Mormons are really sensitive about that. It’s really weird how that is handled.
I’ve also found that ex-Mormons never leave the church. They just stand outside and yell at it.
Have you ever been a member of a cult? If you have been, then were freed, do you think it a Christian thing to allow others to continue to be deceived?
If your children and grandchildren were told lies for years afterwards about why you left the church, you'd stand outside and yell also. Many mormons take it as a very personal affront, as though there were something stolen from them.

Many stories also include excommunication later on for some kind of fabricated "morale failing", to put a greater wedge between them and their families still stuck in mormonism.
We have examples at FR of ex-mormons who have taken up the atheist perspective ... they don’t tend to yell at ‘the church’, but they certainly seem to have a burr under the saddle when it comes to Christianity.
