This reminds me of an interesting segment in the movie Passion of the Christ which most people couldn’t catch. When Jesus first goes to Pilate, Pilate tries to impress him by speaking to him in Aramaic, his own language. Jesus responds to him in Latin, Pilate’s language. This explains the expression of shock on Pilate’s face, that an itinerant jew would be able to speak Pilate’s own language. Since the movie uses sub-titles most people miss this as most people don’t recognize either language when they hear it.

How absolutely fascinating! You’re right ... I read the subtitles and did not pay attention. My pastor reads Aramaic; I’ll have to mention this to him.
