Im torn - I hated to see people treat it so casually as to show up in yesterdays hamper dive (stained with yesterdays auto work) & baseball cap (that would not be removed).....and on the other side, a suit elevates it in respect.....
Now being you are in California - temps are obviously different and I think everyone here would show up in swim trunks if it got as hot as you do
I tended towards khaki or black BDU's with a long sleeve black pull over or short sleeve black tailored shirt....then again - I was the lecturn monkey in the front
fyi - all participants may use the ping list at his / her discretion
just give me a heads up if someone wants to join -
the master list is on my home page
Heavens knows I am unsuitable for anything except paxil, several BP meds, an occasional hard lemonade and fishing
I am, and continue to be, listless, shiftless, goodfernuttin, slack jawed, mouthbreather, knuckledragger, dirtbag, NRA member, clod, oaf, buffoon and hero (to my pets).
Just call me Condervative Dad / husband / son in law
.......and bbq sauce mogul
For all practical purposes that is accurate. The Chaplaincy preferred to refer to the combined Protestant denominations/non-denominations as a "General" service.
When deployed, we became even more "non-denominational," and that was true of the RCatholics as well. They were likely to include RC, Orthodox, High Church Anglicans, etc. We were likely to include everything Christian other than those, with the sometimes exception of the High Church Anglicans.
I think some clarification/reconsidering of caucus might be helpful? Is the caucus designation meant to exclude anyone, or just provide a retreat from negative prosetylization? I feel kinda bad that nondenoms feel excluded. (I've learned long ago you can't argue theology with a nondenom in a forum, except to defend your own beliefs.)
The threads are moderated as if they were meetings happening behind the closed doors of a church.
Therefore, if the thread is labeled "Catholic Caucus" and you are not Catholic, you must not post there. If you do, I will remove the post and boot you from the thread.
There is an exception. If the poster of the caucus thread invites you to participate, like a guest in a church service, I will not intervene.
Also, the article and all posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of other beliefs. For instance, a Catholic Caucus must not compare Catholic and Protestant beliefs or say what Protestants believe. When that happens, the thread must be "opened" so the others may speak for themselves.
Non-denominationals may also caucus. And all of the above applies to their caucuses exactly the same way it applies to Catholic, LDS, Reformed, etc. caucuses.
My follow on is this: Are independent Baptists non-denom? What about Independent Presbyterian churches? Neither have a higher HQ...
The “Independents” qualify as “non-denominational.” And theologically speaking, the subject matter of the “non-denominational caucuses” will no doubt cover a lot of ground.
The Caucus is supposed to be like a closed door church meeting. Therefore while we may be free to express our differences amongst ourselves in a respectful manner, the expression of the differences should be limited to those who have declared themselves to be non-denominational christians.
In regard to such groups as Independent Baptist or Independent Presbyterians, I suppose that if those churches consider themselves to be non-Denominational, then who am I to argue?
A rose by any other name....
Can I participate? I attended a Calvary Chapel for 12 years. I have much I could share. :-)
“Non-denominational” is a Christian category. If you are not Christian, you are not in that category.
Party pooper.
$80.00 Hawaiian shirt??
Heck, you can get one for $5.00 at any thrift store....
“Party pooper.”
Careful there pal. You are two letters from a potty word and you know what that means.
Did just that over the weekend - half off sale. Found a nice one to wear for the funeral service of our asst. pastor who went to be with the Lord last week. Hawaiian shirts were one of his favorites and was a running joke.
As a member of a very restrictive denomination, I never fit in with “the proper look.” I was always seen as rebellious as my crazy hair and physique suggested (and I suppose I was.)
I have come to realize that God made me just as I am, he gave me certain physical traits and unique experiences and outlooks. I am to use them in furthering His Kingdom. He did not create me to be ashamed of my differences, but use them to reach others. I have found that my attributes often help me reach others who have been demeaned and shamed by other restrictive denominations and cults.
Thanks to you and others who were involved with resolving the title , header , who is on 1st issue . I just read the thread and thank you folks for a nice beginning .
Why folks are so touchy feely about this thread and our association is beyond me .911 has freepmail . Good day gentlemen .
I’ve had some challenges trying to get used to Californian styles of coming to church (still do after nearly 12 years). One of the hardest is the casual nature of when they actually show up. If you schedule something, plan on really starting it a half hour later. Shorts and sandals were also challenging to me, but I’ve gotten over that now (well mostly).
