“God the Father is an exalted man (a man who has progressed to godhood) with a body of flesh and bones.

“Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 1973 ed., p. 346 - “God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man...I say, if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in a form-like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as a man.”

“D & C 130:22 “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also.”

Great post, CC.

I’ve barely got through the entire bit, but if this belief is considered true by Mormons, whom do they consider (or how) was this God/Man created? Reads a great deal like evolution if taken at face value.

If this part cannot be defended, how can Mormons go any further in defending the rest of ... of ... ?

TY,

The way it was taught to me when I was Mormon, is that eternity has no beginning and no end. In spritual form everything is eternal with no beginning. God, the Father has always existed eternally, as has the Son - - but so have we ALL. All of us have existed in eternity.

Now, the purpose of life on this earth is to obtain a body. God the Father, at one time, was a Spritual being who lived on an earth like ours, went through tests, progressed, grew in knowledge, obtained a body and he progressed into Godhood. Likewise the Son.

And so, with each mortal on each planet everywhere, there is the possibility of perfect performance and progressing into godhood. This is called the Plan of Progression, or the Plan of Salvation. You can actually read more about this “plan” on lds.org. In the search box, type “Plan of Salvation” or even “Plan of Exaltation.”

Mormonism actually teaches that the fall of Adam was part of the Plan and was necessary in order to enable humans on this planet a chance to learn and grow, to be tested and to become Gods of their own worlds.
