Agreed. The theological descriptive is Protestant (which was my reference here) and the governance descriptive is non-denominational, as you said.

From a purely technical standpoint, most independent evangelical Churches are NOT protestant as they do not trace their authority or doctrine directly to the reformation.

From where/whom do they trace their descent? Do they attempt to leapfrog back to the time of Christ? And do they state doctrine without resorting to Reformation terminology? How do they do this?
