Unmasking the Pope and the Catholic System (Open)
Grace To You ^ | Exact date unknown | John F. MacArthur

Posted on 05/17/2008 6:30:09 PM PDT by e.Shubee

John F. MacArthur is no ordinary evangelical. I think that there is something special about him because of the unusual excellence of his book  The Gospel According to Jesus. I consider that book to be the finest exposition on the gospel ever written.

The most surprising thing about John MacArthur is his wide acceptance, given that he believes in the true gospel and takes a strong stand on the historic Protestant understanding of Roman Catholicism. Consider his protestant message, Unmasking the Pope and the Catholic System, delivered shortly after the death of Pope John Paul II, and see if you can either respect or refute his statements.

Would you ever knowingly listen to/read something that might invalidate your faith?

Just curios.

There is nothing that will invalidate my faith.

I chose to become Catholic. I have studied and practiced this faith for many, many years. My six adult children have all remained Catholic.

My time is running out -—”seventy is the sum of our years, and eighty if we are strong”, the Psalms tell us.

“My soul is thirsting for the living God” —again the Psalms—and that is all my longing now.

I don’t have any interest in what John MacArthur has to say.

For every one, like me, who at this moment writes this on an open forum, there are countless more Catholics who never heard of FR, never have the time to browse around on the internet, and don’t thrive on debate and “discussion”, but love the Lord, live for the Lord and serve Him as best they can, with the help of His grace. And He promised that anyone who came to Him, He would not cast out.

What more is there, in the final analysis, than that?

And where is Madaline Murray O’Hair now?

“Atheist’s funeral: all dressed up and no place to go!”

Is this supposed to help the conservative movement or exacerbate any possible tensions?

Jesus prayed that His followers might be one; but we are not to sacrifice the truth in order to secure this union, for we are to be sanctified through the truth. Here is the foundation of all true peace. Human wisdom would change all this, pronouncing this basis too narrow. Men would try to effect unity through concession to popular opinion, through compromise with the world, a sacrifice of vital godliness. But truth is God's basis for the unity of His people.

Jesus prayed that His followers might be one...

But the longer His Church persisted, the more pride pulled people away to march by their own gospel rather than that of His Church. But thankfully, the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Catholic Church and all are free to return whenever they want.

The Catholic Church is VERY MUCH pro Bible.

You mean "pro Latin Vulgate".

Let's face it, we wouldn't have the new testament if it weren't for the Pope, Bishops, and Monks who - for centuries - copied it over and over.

Ummm -- those were Greek Orthodox monks doing that.

The Catholic Church is NOT supportive of lousy translations of the Bible. This is why certain translations were burned.

Well its okay to do what you want with one's own property, but to confiscate and destroy the property of others, especially a bible translation???? Please!!!

Read a little about the Tyndale version and figure that one out for yourself.

I have -- the magisterium feared it because it was far more superior to their own Vulgate and they didn't want the people to know that there was an alternative to their Vulgate. Tyrants hate competition.

Is it still on that List of Forbidden Books, you know, that List that never included Mein Kampf????

Some protestants have tried to hijack the title "Bible-believing Christian" much in the same way the homosexuals hijacked the word "gay."

I am a Bible-believing Christian.

LOL

Searching for errors in the Tyndale translation is like looking for water in the ocean.

That must be why they avoid water as much as possible.

All those Latin Vulgates floating around are sufficient proof — but of course that may be Greek to you.

All those Latin Vulgates floating around are not proof that Greek Orthodox priests and monks were the ones who were copying the New Testament over and over for centuries.

From the time Jerome translated the Vulgate to the time Gutenberg printed his first Bible (again, a Vulgate)--roughly 1050 years--you are claiming that it was Greek Orthodox monks who did all the recopying and preservation of the New Testament?
