Unmasking the Pope and the Catholic System (Open)
Grace To You ^ | Exact date unknown | John F. MacArthur

Posted on 05/17/2008 6:30:09 PM PDT by e.Shubee

John F. MacArthur is no ordinary evangelical. I think that there is something special about him because of the unusual excellence of his book  The Gospel According to Jesus. I consider that book to be the finest exposition on the gospel ever written.

The most surprising thing about John MacArthur is his wide acceptance, given that he believes in the true gospel and takes a strong stand on the historic Protestant understanding of Roman Catholicism. Consider his protestant message, Unmasking the Pope and the Catholic System, delivered shortly after the death of Pope John Paul II, and see if you can either respect or refute his statements.

Jack Chick references are a big no-no.

"This is another flat out attack on my religion. Why is that acceptable here?"

Did you listen to the MP3?

Is that what is a 'flat out attack' on your religion?

The reason things like that MP3 are acceptable is because:
A: its not from a source listed as a hate site.
B: this is an open thread; thick skins are the order of the day.

These are the thread types on the Religion Forum:

Prayer threads are closed to debate of any kind.

Devotional threads are closed to debate of any kind.

Caucus threads are closed to any poster who is not a member of the caucus. If it says “Catholic Caucus” and you are not Catholic, do not post to the thread. However, if the poster of the caucus invites you, I will not boot you from the thread. The “caucus” article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.

Ecumenic threads are closed to all “anti” arguments. Posters may express the beliefs they are “for” but not those they are “against.” They may also ask questions. Posters who try to tear down other’s beliefs – or use subterfuge to accomplish the same goal – are the disrupters on ecumenic threads and will be booted from the thread and/or suspended. Do not “pick at scabs” by mentioning prior “open” threads. If you need to make a point previously made on an “open” thread, summarize it anew.

Open threads are a town square – posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other's beliefs. They may ridicule, similar to the Smoky Backroom with the exception that a poster must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

If you are offended by posts which attack your beliefs, then stay off the "open" threads.

The fathers of the Catholic Church WROTE the Bible.

I had no idea that the 1st Century Apostles were the exclusive ancestors to just Roman Catholics!

The Catholic Church assembled the Bible, finalized the canon, preserved the Bible through the middle ages.

I also didn't know that when the Church universal recognized (not created) the canon of the New Testament in the 4th Century, that even though Rome is only one of the 5 original Provinces, that somehow it was just Rome and her Bishop that assembled the 27 books of the NT--I thought Athanasius, of the Province of Alexandria, was key in that role.

The Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ IN the Bible.

And funny thing is there is not a single reference making Rome and her Bishop supreme in the Holy Scriptures.

There's a good reason what the vast majority of Roman Catholics are biblically illiterate--their Church teaches the Bible is NOT their final authority, and would rather they not bother their pretty little heads by reading it. Would that cause them to doubt many of the dogmas of Rome if they did?

No wonder Bloody Mary confiscated all the Bibles. Rome did the same thing with German bibles in Austria...and lets not even talk about France--and the many thousands of Calvinist civilians slaughtered there at the time. Gotta keep everyone under control....

Sorry, this isn’t an issue of being “thin skinned”, it is an issue of outright hatefilled lies pummeling Catholics day after day by posters who do little else. Is this really what the “Free Republic” is all about?

If a thread on any other subject was this far out in whacko looney-land, the person who started the thread would get zotted.

What will you do if someone posts the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and claims that it’s true?

Yawn. Fine.

The notion that the Waldensians had an Old Latin version of Scriptures is an illiterate flight of wishful thinking. The notion that the Waldensian scriptures were “much better” than St. Jerome’s Vulgate is similarly unsupportable fiction.

Better?

Such a post would be anti-Semitic hate mongering - neither the post nor the poster would stand.

But if you happen to believe the Creataor is a Rubber Duck, you are free to discuss your beliefs on the Religion Forum.

“Rome hates the Bible. Rome FEARS the Bible. They don’t want you studying it without an “approved leader” looking over your shoulder (usually a priest or a specially-trained lay minister) so that they can tell you what it means, so that the proles won’t come to any unauthorised conclusions derived solely from reading the actual text for themselves.”

That notion, I’m sorry to say, is pure lunacy. I guess you got it from someone you think credible, but it bears no resemblance to reality.

“I’ve heard Catholics on FR exude their hatred for the King James Bible”

How interesting. I’ve been here a while, now, and have never heard any such thing. I suppose you can support your accusation with examples.

“As the most doctrinally rigourous version in English, it is also the one that opens up the most cans of worm for Catholics if they were to read it for themselves, with an open mind, “unaided”.

I’ve read it. It opens up no cans of worms. Of courese, it’s abridged.

It’s on the “unaided” thing that you’re really reversed, though. Protestants seem to think that the Holy Spirit will come and help them understand the Bible correctly just any old time they sit down to read.

No one who has ever experienced the Holy Spirit’s presence would imagine such a thing. It is as staggering an experience as it is rare.

I consider an understanding of a scripture conferred by the Holy Spirit to be an Inspired Interpretation. The Catholic Church has compiled more of these than any other individual, organization, library, or body. When they get one, it becomes the “official” interpretation of that given passage. No subsequent Inspired Interpretations ever contradict a previous one.

If you are blessed enough to have one yourself, and you take it to your priest, he will probably look at you with perplexity and say, “Yes, that’s what the Church holds. Didn’t you get that before?” If, like a protestant, you try to rely on your own mental abilities to understand the Bible, it’s really hit and miss...more miss than hit.

The Church urges Catholics to study the Bible. There are three readings at just about every Mass. The Church holds the Bible to be the highest authority. If someone claimed to have had a personal revelation of some kind, and it contradicted the Bible, it would be dismissed out of hand.

You have a lot of misinformation. You are on notice of that.

“Such a post would be anti-Semitic hate mongering - neither the post nor the poster would stand.”

Is there anything a person could say about the Catholic Church that would be sufficiently extreme for you to see it as anti-Catholic hate mongering?

Of course. Jack Chick materials, anything from Jesus-is-Lord.com, the false Oath of the Knights of Columbus, the false Jesuit Oath and any website with includes links to these are not allowed on the Religion Forum.

Jesus-is-Savior.com, for instance, links to both Jack Chick and Jesus-is-Lord.com and is therefore not allowed.

Some early religious figures made claims which would be considered "hate mongering" today. Some faiths would complain about the Bible containing such speech. But both are valid subjects for discussion on the Religion Forum.

The Bible is quoted on the banned sites, but the Bible is not banned because a hate mongering website quoted it.

A website ends up on our list for a central hate mongering agenda. Others include KKK, Aryan Nations, National Alliance, Christian Identity, VDare.

Click here for a sample list of hate websites.

Pro-LDS and anti-Catholic threads abound in breaking news. I’m detecting a pattern here...

I've noticed it since the FLDS raid.
