To “argue the merits” is not the same as “arguing”. To discuss something says nothing of coming to a logical conclusion - we could discuss my navel ad infinitum if you like to discuss things. And no, the first to lose his temper has not automatically lost. Chuchill lost his temper at Hitler well before Nevile Chamberlain.

Wow. I posted a smile on my comment. Maybe you didn’t see it.

You DO like to argue! When I said name-calling was non-productive, that was an observation, not an accusation.

And I don’t think I have to apologize for the “Hose Brigade” when I didn’t coin the phrase, and don’t necessarily have to agree with it.

Maybe you could ask me questions instead of making blanket statements. Not all Mormons are alike, you know. Well, except for the fact that we believe in the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. ;o]

I can't say that is the case.

I knelt down to pray for the first time in a long time, and began "Dear Heavenly Father"......Then in a shutter of fear and shame realized that is what the mormons taught me to call God, and I honestly don't know if that is alright. I have to relearn everything....Starting with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for now.

I thought I would let the girls visit their mother on mother's day......She took them straight to church, where I'm sure they were filled with sympathy from others regarding their father's "apostasy" and "heresy". then she wouldn't give them back as I'm sure she was told to do. I had to call the cops.

The tendency to-day is to put the emphasis on service. Beware of the people who make usefulness their ground of appeal. If you make usefulness the test, then Jesus Christ was the greatest failure that ever lived. The lodestar of the saint is God Himself, not estimated usefulness. It is the work that God does through us that counts, not what we do for Him. All that Our Lord heeds in a man’s life is the relationship of worth to His Father. Jesus is bringing many sons to glory.

Not only that, he paid for the sins of unbelievers too. He covered the whole world ie that the world might be Saved through Him.

Imagine going to the bank to pay your mortgage and being told “Someone already paid that debt”. Imagine saying “I don’t believe it. I’ll make the payment anyway”. Plenty of Christians do just that. There is no debt to pay but there is something you must do. In a little over a month, I am preaching on that something.

If HE used “Our Father”, I’m sure Heavenly Father is perfectly ok. We always use it, and not a mormon in the bunch. :)

You have a very tough row to hoe, but be aware that a lot of people will be very supportive. There are a lot of eyeopening stories on exmormon.org that may be useful to you. They talk a lot about the pain of leaving, and brutal shunning, but also of how new worlds open up for them. I’m sure things will get better, or at least more clear.

A lot of apologists here don’t like to believe how devastating “shunning” can be in the Mormon church, some even deny it exists. I’ve had it applied to me twice (yes, even Gentiles can get caught in the web).

So, as the powers that be at FreeRepublic discuss whether to get rid of antis for being “bashers”, it might be wise for them to peruse the bashing that is done the opposite direction. Blood atonement never really went away.
