I would object to claims that a person who is a Mormon is not a Christian, because only God can know who is one of his own, and just as one can belong to a true Christian church but not be a Christian, I believe the opposite can be true as well.

If an individual mormon finds the Christ of Christianity that would be one thing God would judge. That is hard to defend IF the mormon is an orthodox mormon. You see the key is the object of the faith, if that object is invalid, so is the faith. Don't forget Jesus said that many would on that day cry "Lord, Lord" and He will say He never knew them. The teachings of Christianity are incompatable with mormonism. Examples mormonism is polytheistic, Christianity monotheistic trinitarism, Christianity Christ is God the Creator, mormonism's Christ a created being who is spirit brother to the devil. The list can go on.

I as a pentcostal can relate to Presbyterians because we can both hold the Nicean creed up as truth - mormonism opposes that creed vehemently. I recognize differences in the minor areas of theology - but we share on a doctrinal level a common view of God, the Person, Nature and Work of Christ - the core essential of salvation presented in the NT. Mormons don't share that - they oppose it. Now, does behavior make the person? I hope you are familiar with Pauls discussion in Romans on the fact that salvation by works just doesn't cut it. They are important- but we don't get our salvation from them.

Finally, if you read the post, you will see that there are other reasons for presenting the truth - and there is truth. If you are uncertain, please go back to #90 and re-read the scriptures - going back to see the fuller context if need be.

Of course, as a Presbyterian, I believe I’m saved no matter WHAT group is right or what church I’m going to :-)

Yes, the 'frozen chosen' IIRC, LOL. But does that form a barrier to showing the falsehood of mormonism to those who will perish if they follow it? If this is the case, why send any missionaries into the field? No, Jesus commanded the word be set forth and Paul forthrightly tells us to defend the message from compromise and perversion; warning all of false 'gospels' and 'prophets' . If mormons want to make FR their forum for proselytizing, then I am compelled to show those teachings to be false. Go to #90 and go to the exmormon site and see the testimonies of those freed from mormonism who read challenges to mormonism and its responses.

No, my comment about the frozen chosen was a throwaway line to exit the topic of which church is the right church.

I believe that the only requirement for salvation is a faith in Christ Jesus, and Him crucified. A CORRECT faith is a trinitarian faith, one that believes in the scriptures, that does not elevate what is not in scripture, etc.

But a correct faith is not necessary for salvation. And for whatever incorrect aspects of faith Mormons are confronted with in their teachings, they CAN have a saving faith in Christ Jesus. While some will argue the WORDS have a different meaning, the words each person utters will have the meaning THEY intend, not what the church has tried to make them.

I still witness to my Mormon friends. Take no chances, that’s my motto. But I won’t condemn them to hell — that is God’s job. My job is to clearly articulate MY understanding of scripture, not to judge whether someone else has reached an understanding.

And yes, I can reconcile witnessing with my belief that God chooses us. But I do understand the apparent contradiction.
