Joe Smith was a megalomaniac, a control freak, and had a zipper problem with teenage girls and other men's wives, and he so invented a religion with himself at its head so that he could feed his insatiable desires with impunity.

'nuff said!

I’ve rarely met a Mormon that wasn’t an exceptional human being.

I have. Lots of them. They are no better than any other group, they just have good PR.

Years ago, I lived among the followers of Mohammed. Great bunch of people.

Apostle Parley P. Pratt thought that they were better than that "idolatrous and corrupt church that has borne the name of Christianity."

"So far as that one point is concerned, of worshipping the one true God under the name of Mahometanism, together with many moral precepts, and in war only acting on the defensive, I think they have exceeded in righteousness and truthfulness of religion, the idolatrous and corrupt church that has borne the name of Christianity."MORMON APOSTLE PARLEY P. PRATT (Mitt Romney's Great Great Grandfather).

Polygamy is not immoral or else you had better strt questioning the entire foundation of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Judaism and Christianity are not founded on polygamy.

This defense of polygamy that keeps popping up is sick. They base it on the fact that polygamy was sometimes practiced in the Bible.

Well so was slavery. And in the early days of this country, slavery was defended as being "Biblical" too.

True prophets are holy and rise ABOVE the culture not succumb to it.

Not sure what you're trying to say to me. I certainly don't consider Joseph Smith anything but a pervert. My family left the Mormons generations ago.

Agreed. A number of my partners are Mormons, as are many of my distant relatives, and without exception they are great people. While I find the behavior of Joseph Smith while here on Earth to be something less than I'd expect from a holy man, he certainly inspired good things among his modern-day followers.

Brigham Young lead thousands of people to the Salt Lake area, and to the natural mind, it seemed like a huge folly. Soon the barren desert was turned into a fertile land of abundance. If that’s not a miracle, I don’t know what is.

Sorry, but if the original prophets practiced polygamy then it is ultimately the “Traditional family value”. Even Martin Luther pointed out that there is noting in the scriptures to make Christianity and polygamy exclusive of one another.

The only religious text that limits polygamy is The Koran which limits it to 4 wives. The only reason polygamy was suspended by rabbinical councels in Europe a few hundred years ago was due to fears of persecution from Christians in Europe. The only reason it died out with Christians was the grafting in of Hellenistic and Roman social norms into the early Christian church a few hundred years after the ministry of Jesus.

’ve never had a post pulled that I recall. Try again.

Or perhaps you could paraphrase what I said that was so offensive.

You forget the day you tried to horn in on a devotional and the RM agreed your spitting on us did not belong there.

Ah yes, I remember the day when the invitation was issued to those of us who have left the LDS Church to come back.

Hey, I thought you wanted me back, and so I answered. But since the article was posted as a devotional, you guys and the mod decided my input was not wanted.

Kind of schizophrenic don’t you think? Asking me to come back, but telling me to shut up, you really didn’t want to hear from me at all.

BTW, that day too, I was not “spitting” on you, but simply offering you guys my wisdom of being one who had left and telling you why. You are so ultra sensitive, you can’t handle the truth.

Man are you ever misinformed.

This was written by a rabbi who does know his Jewish history. Oh and I don't care one whit what Luther said. He was no prophet, just human like the rest of us.

Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us.

Free speech is intended to protect the controversial and even outrageous word; and not just comforting platitudes too mundane to need protection.

There is no more fundamental axiom of American freedom than the familiar statement: In a free country we punish men for crimes they commit but never for the opinions they have.
- Harry S. Truman

Free speech, exercised both individually and through a free press, is a necessity in any country where people are themselves free.
