Many of my friends that I grew up with are mormons and I feel sorry for their belief in the false doctrine of the book of mormon. Especially when this warning from the the last page of the last chapter of the bible is considered (Revelation Chap 22: 18-21):

18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book: If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life and out of the Holy City, and from the things which are written in this book. 20He that testifieth these things saith, "Surely I come quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

The book of mormon clearly adds to and subtracts from the prophecies contained in Revelation.

OK, my Mormon friends, I got this off a non-Mormon site.

The Mormon Church teaches a plurality of Gods. They believe that God the Father (Elohim) was once a man on a separate world who attained godhood. He then had many spirit children with his wives, the oldest one being Jesus.

According to LDS beliefs, we were all Elohim’s spirit children before our carnal existence. Therefore, Jesus is our eldest brother. Jesus was one of a very few who attained godhood before living an earthly life.

How much of this do most Mormons believe?

This really does NOT belong on Free Republic imho. I am not looking forward for more to come. This has NOTHING to do with grassroots conservatism. Keep your prosthelyzing on your religous beliefs in an appropriate venue please.

The Book of Revelation is not the last book written. There are other books in the NT that were written after this one. Also, the Bible as we know it today did not exist in the same form as we know have it. It is a compilation, not a cronological text. Deuteronomy also has this same type of wording. Does that mean that everything after that OT book is to be disregarded. Get real people. God is speaking today just as he has over the history of man on the earth. You are so high and tight trying to prove he does not that you are ignoring all of the good he has done. You deny it? Well, then why pray? You do not think he is a deaf mute, do you? Ever had even one little sparkle of wisdom granted to you after a fervent prayer? If so, then you just blew your own argument. He is. He does. He loves all of his children and will direct their path if they lean not to their own understanding. How would he direct paths unless he could speak? There is a lot of ignorance in this world and I find that those who close their minds and hearts will continue to be ignorant.

Would you also mind bringing out the original texts of the Bible? No, not one of the 4500 translations, the original texts. And while you are at it, where is the evidence that Moses even existed? And while you are at that, why do the Christian churches teach that God (there is only one, remember) is a spirit and fail to realize that Jesus Christ resurrected and got his body back? How can he be a spirit and a being with a body at the same time. People saw him and felt his wounds, you know. Do we have proof? Only what the Bible records! For me, the rest of the Christian community is confused and dazed and I do not think they even know what they believe.

The real question is why are these “posts” allowed under the news forum?
Why aren’t they on the religion forum.

71 pages on a single thread. Do you have the readers digest version?

From a brief glance at the article:

the post-Apostolic Christians came to believe that God created the entire material universe out of absolutely nothing (i.e. creatio ex nihilo), rather than out of pre-existent, chaotic matter. Perhaps in a misguided attempt to give more glory to God, Christian philosophers of the late second century discarded the early Christian and Jewish idea of creation from chaos in favor of the theory of creatio ex nihilo, as formulated by the Gnostic philosopher Basilides.

Since this article has been posted in the News Activism forum rather than the religion forum, I'm going to have to say..... BULLCRAP!

If the rest of this article is full of this kind of tripe, then obviously it's not worth the photons it is printed on.

Why is this not posted on the religion forum?

I have been told that is because Free Republic has decided to move all active Mormon threads out of the Religion Forum and into the news forum.

Maybe someone thinks Mormonism is not a religion. Or maybe Mormonism is just getting special treatment. We report. You decide.

"Why is this not posted on the religion forum ?

Because Mormons appear to have special privileges here. If you post one of the quotes by Joseph Smith or Brigham Young from their own "History of the Church" books, they hit the abuse button, the thread gets pulled, and you get an email from the moderator. They, on the other hand are entitled to come interrupt YOUR dinner at any time.

I agree and it is really getting annoying.
