I guess is depends on your religious alignment. As a fallen-away Catholic, I seem to recall, between numerous raps on the knuckles with a brass-tipped ruler, that you were to treat your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, which would make tats of any kind a no-no.

The good sisters did a great job with you! The fallen away Catholic is correct. A Tattoo is considered bodily mutilation. But, as Anonymous Rex commented, you should seek council from a priest before proceeding.
