If I remember correctly, it was a woman Methodist pastor who met with Elian and his grandmother(s), who joined with the NCC to recommend that he be sent to live with his father.

The grandmothers even behaved inappropriately, as I recall, to try to get Elian to be left alone with his relatives in Miami, but to no avail.

That whole episode soured me on Methodists forever. I do not respect them at all.
