And they might be full of baloney. Who’s to say? Answer: Compare their words to scripture. It is a time tested method.

BUMP THAT. It is the ONLY method.

“Mary could have gotten ran over by a herd of runaway donkeys and God could have raised up another virgin from rocks just as He could have raised up children of Abraham from rocks or as the rocks would have cried out worshipping Jesus riding into Jerusalem.

God is NEVER at the mercy of human frailties and decisions.”

A big AMEN to that!

Of course if one has chosen “brothers” to signify a group of cousins

And just why would one use the word "brothers" to signify "cousins" when the language already has a perfectly good word [suggenes] meaning "cousins" to signify "cousins"???

But He could have, if He had wanted to.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Still, for some it seems that despite their belief in God being all-powerful, the "simplest" of miracles are beyond that belief. If one can believe that God sent His Son to be born of woman, why cannot one believe that she would remain a virgin?

"I believe this miracle, but that one goes too far!"

Dear Petronski,

“This thread is just dripping with Nestorian heresy (among others).”

Yes, among others.

The beauty of it is that God CHOSE to have a mother-son relationship in taking the flesh. Since God does nothing imperfectly, to ignore the significance of God’s decision to enter into such a relationship is sheer folly. To deny that the relationship even existed is pure heresy.

Would God have chosen a woman who didn’t love children, and greatly desire them to mother Jesus? I doubt it.

I had a fierce desire for children by the time I was 12.

It, like most similar threads, is stiff with certain folks claiming for themselves something indistinguishable from papal infallibility ... which they then deny to anyone else.

Because there is no word for “cousins” in Aramaic or Hebrew, “brother” was used, and when translated to Greek, a direct translation into the Greek word for brother was used.

The NT writers emulated what was done when the Septuagint was translated: use the direct word for “brothers” (used for both “male siblings” and “cousins” and “other male relatives” and even “close male non-relatives” from Aramaic) in Greek.

And why wouldn’t have Mary been willing to sacrifice that personal desire after her first?

Why was Adonijah killed for seeking the hand of the virgin Abishag in marriage?

A good point. Is this not the major distinction between Catholics and Protestants? Or am I wrong?

I would have no problem believing that if there was a reason (scripture) to. There is none.

He could have given her a nice shiny corvette (Red) too, but I have no reason (scripture) to believe that either.

That is the essence of our modern-day product of Luther and Calvin: they reject the Pope because they want Luther or Calvin to be their pope; or, worse still, they want to be their own pope (”autopapists?”).

Your post reminds me of one of my most important rules: Never argue scripture with a Protestant.

Poor Mary. Her sex life is a subject of endless fascination for Protestants.
