It's not that I don't have profound respect for Mary as the mother of God. It's just that there is nothing within scripture that indicates Mary has any special position outside of agreeing to bear the Messiah and cooperate with God. Yep, and Jesus had His chance, and He indicated His mother was no different than other believers.

Can't you see what's on the very page? What does the story of the Wedding Cana tell us except God alters the divine plan at Mary's request...and she doen't even have to make the request formally!
