i love how folks use the church father’s writings if they can spin them to disparage the church, but when the same early church fathers show the distinctive catholicity of the early church, all the sudden, “well, that doesnt matter, cause the bible says ‘_________’, etc, etc”

Yup....Me too! I use the writings of the early fathers when they agree with scripture quite frequently. When they don't agree with scripture I show them to be the silliness they are. I think everyone who posts in the religious forum would agree that the writings of the early church fathers were not inspired.....so, like history....they must meet the test. You will not find me in the Sola Scriptura crowd.
