It’s a very long teaching, that’s why. I’ve already pointed you to Deut 12 & 14. That’s the main source.

It’s not my place to tell anyone else what I think they ought to do. I pointed you to the study resources.

I have a small booklet he wrote about tithing, where he tells the story of a young mother with a retarded daughter, who gave her tithe faithfully, even if it was only ten cents. It was the very best sermon on the blessings of tithing that I ever read. I never listened much to him but this booklet makes me wish I had.

I have it so even I can remember it, especially when I start thinking of what’s going on in our world today. Sigh.

I liked Dad Hagin.

He had a real down-to-earth practicality; candor; humility etc. to him that was part and parcel of a lot of my relatives—many of whom were from OKLAHOMA!

But I’m more than . . . dismayed at most of his disciples.

I think it’s fairly standard . . . warmed over hash just isn’t that good in most fields most of the time.

I think it’s particularly true in Christianty. God has fresh stuff for each of us . . . When we have something straight from God to offer—it’s best . . . repeat performances especially the 800th time . . . doesn’t go down well with me most of the time.

I think that’s one reason I don’t have much respect for most magicstericals. They are too often talking about dead RELIGION vs what God is saying NOW to those HERE.

We’re studying to discover God’s PURPOSE for the tithes and offerings, TN. Deut 12 & 14 teach us what God’s purpose for the tithes and offerings is.

Malachi refers to the third year of the tithes, when they are brought into the storehouse for the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. Those are the tithes and offerings God said the people were robbing him in. Not the other tithes and offerings. Also note that God said they were robbing him IN tithes and offerings, not OF tithes and offerings.

Now, go back to Deut 14 and read to discover what God instructed the individual Israelites to do with their tithes in those other years.

If you have the courage, come back here and tell the rest of us what you just learned.

By the time of the New Testament, the religious leaders had corrupted many of the laws of God, including those of the tithes and offerings. But, and this is a huge but, the Messiah came, and he became the First Fruits.

Ah, First Fruits. How does that relate to tithes and offerings?

And BTW, when Jesus suffered and died, and rose against, sinless, did he buy 10% of you, or 100% of you? Yet you talk of the tithe (you use it singularly) as though it is only 10%. Hmmmmmmm?

I hope I am challenging you and your beliefs about this subject, because I’m not going to make it easy for you to get it without study and much thought. It’s an extremely important concept to understand, and it shouldn’t come cheap.

You’re right. Trouble is that too many christians can’t see any new moves of God. They’re content with “but we’ve always done it this way.” When God does move in a new direction, many will attribute it to satan.

Have you heard of Robert Morris? He’s put out a great video set of four teachings on First Fruits. I highly recommend it. It has changed the giving of many in our church.

What that radio preacher really wanted was more people to send in offerings,” Hagin wrote.

Duuuhh, ya think?

The so-called "prosperity gospel" is NOT the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it's an outrageous example of deception and exploitation of the worst kind. IMHO the blow dried, diamond-encrusted, Rolls Royce driving TV charlatans who promise gullible Christians that God will multiply to them by a hundredfold any amount of money they send in to his or her bank account have done more to disgust and turn away thinking people from the true Gospel of Christ than any other fraudulent religious scam in 20th and 21st century America. I have driven by Creflo Dollar's extravagant country estate many times with it's gleaming mansion, multiple-car garages, and gated fence built on what I estimate to be about 30 or 40 acres of prime outer-suburban Atlanta real estate, and I am truthful when I say that I hope that he and his wife enjoy their riches to the fullest in this mortal life, because they may not be in a position to enjoy anything at all in their next lives. I am not passing judgment on the Dollars nor do I consider myself qualified to do so, but I am saying that if they were actually called to the ministry of preaching the Gospel of Christ, IMHO they are exercising very poor judgment themselves by their extravagant lifestyle.

Prosperity preachers claim that Jesus and his disciples were not poor but were actually rich men, and that Judas carried a small fortune in the group's purse. That claim is diametrically opposed to what Jesus said on that same subject. Among other sayings on the subject, he said that the birds have nests and wild animals have holes for their abode, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head. Furthermore, his disciples were almost all poor working men who he chose to share both his ministry and his poverty, fishermen and common laborers in that day and time were definitely not rich men. Anyway, if Jesus had wanted riches for himself and his followers all he had to do in order to have them was to speak them into being in any amount he wanted. But instead he willingly went to the cross a pauper who possessed nothing but a robe and dusty sandals, and was buried in a tomb borrowed from a rich man.

David wrote that he had never seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging bread, and God does provide for His children's material needs except in certain rare circumstances in which their poverty serves His righteous purpose in some way. But David's observation and God's normal providence is a far cry from the false prosperity gospel preached by these present day fleecers of their often poor and desperate TV-land flocks.
