But we're not worshiping matter. We've said over and over: the Host is Christ. The bread is gone. Disappeared. Vanished. Annihilated. Only Christ is there. So we are worshiping only Christ. You can argue we're deluded about that, but you cannot say we are guilty of the sin of idolatry because we are not worshiping anything other than what we really and truly believe to be the One True God.

What prominent Catholic said that? It smacks of manifest heresy to me, absolutely repugnant to the thinking of the Church. That is God in the tabernacle, it doesn't matter one fig what "modern man" thinks about it.
