2. This list leaves out the clear covenantal language spoken to Isaac and Jacob. This was reflected in Leviticus 26:42 "And I will remember my covenant, that I made with Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham. I will remember also the land:"
Why do we need another?
The people agreed to obey God! Remember, a covenant is an "agreement" between two parties ABOUT something. The proposal from God is likened unto a marriage covenant. God said,
"Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD" (Jeremiah 31:31, 32).
"For finding fault with them [there was no "fault" or flaw in the covenant itselfthe fault was with the rebellious people!], he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
