The faculty threatened the Pope, because he doesn’t follow their atheistic dogma, while BXVI talked of how faith and reason intertwine, and that true faith is freely given and accepted.

Within the bounds of The Church, this is a fine description of one of the teaching functions of the Bishop of Rome vis a vis the entire Church.
