Pope Benedict XVI is greeted by La Sapienza University students at the end of his weekly general audience at the Vatican January 16, 2008. University students poured into Vatican City on Wednesday to show support for Pope Benedict after protests over his views on science forced him to cancel a speech at Rome's top public college. The German Pontiff decided late on Tuesday not to deliver an address at La Sapienza university on Thursday following protests by a small but vociferous group of students and faculty members. Some had occupied part of the campus to demand he stay away. REUTERS/Osservatore Romano (VATICAN)

must be hard to remain a saint when you see every noble thing you hoped, prayed, and gave your life for being sacked by thugs.

When I read St. Augustine's works, I don't have the impression that he died more or less 1,600 years ago, I feel he is a modern man: a friend, a contemporary who speaks to me, he speaks to us with his fresh and modern faith.
Viva il papa!

Zenit is a good thing IMO.
I get it via private e mail from an old Catholic who cares and still support Zenit.
The article you posted is great but the link is better.
LOL I just got pinged for my evening ping...by Zenit.
Excellant link IMO ...

I can’t find the Italian news report that I read earlier today, but it said that when Benedict XVI arrived at Paul VI Hall for the general audience that the students held up banners and chanted “Liberty! Liberty!” At some point during the audience, the Holy Father thanked them for their presence and sympathy.

This is a fine Pope. It’s so “consoling” to have another scholar and teacher for a Pope. And what a nice guy, too!

I hope someone publishes these catecheses in a book some day. It would be a best seller.

Whgat a great teacher he is! He warms the heart of youth as John Paul did, although the attraction is of a different kind. He reduces matters to the essential. I must also say that his translator is wonderful.
