Wow, there are more Christians in Syria than there are in Japan! About 1% of the 128 million Japanese profess Christianity, that would be 1.28 million people.
The Middle East isn't really devoid of Christians, they're just not often heard about because of the predominance of Islam and the Muslims' persecution of religious minorities. Christianity was born in the Middle East, and had it not been for that swine Mohammed (pun intended), it could very well be the dominant religion there today.
