The media loathes Christianity and quickly and gleefully jumps on anything that will chip away at the Catholic Church because they view it as the linchpin to eliminating Christianity in this country.

On the other hand, being good little socialists, they can't attack the public schools because that's the mechanism for indoctrinating our youts into their socialist paradise.

Unfortunately, many (certainly no where near a majority) Christians of other denominations, gleefully ignorant of the media agenda and having their own bigotry toward the Catholic Church, are useful idiots for the media agenda; buying in completely and continually repeating the false "pedophilia" charge.

You can see it on here with the immediate posting of any charge of abuse against Catholic priests and the following piling on. One such poster with the initials A. M. seems to wake up in the morning itching to find anything he can to slice more wounds into the Body of Christ.

Of course saying this I will immediately be maligned saying I want to ignore the problem, which is not the case. The Catholic Church is fixing its inexcusable problem with homosexual priests (not pedophiles) while serial abusers in other Christian denominations, other faiths and in our public schools are thankful that they can continue to fly under the radar...thankful knowing that to bring the same indignation to non-Catholic priest abuse would spoil all the joy the anti-Christian bigots in the media and anti-Catholic bigots in the Christian and atheist world are having.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do NOT make it personal.

Thanks for the ping, Big 'Ol.

I think for one reason for more stories about the Church was the mass cover up. The way most people would look at it is if you had a priest that was molesting a kid and just moved him to another parish its wrong. The Church really didn’t do anything. Whereas in the schools, the teacher was fired. True, they should have been reported, but people don,t think that way. As they see it, the school did something.

I’m not Catholic but I will defend the Church. While growing up in a small town there was a priest that some of us guys used to hang around with. He never said or done anything that we felt uncomfortable with. And we all talked about this when all the stories started. I don’t think there are as many ‘victims’ as the law suits state. I think some are just money hunger people that seen a way to make some easy cash.

FYI: Being homosexual is not the same as being a pedophile. To many studies have shown this. Just look at the teachers who had sex with the kids, most were married.

I agree with you 100%.

News stories about teachers who have sexual relationships with their students or who abuse students, are very common. As this story points out, there have been more than 2,500 proven cases of abuse over a recent five year period. That is 500 cases per year. Yet, the media consistently treats these cases as isolated incidents and not as symptoms of an institutional problem or defect.

Contrast this with the way that the media handled the clerical sex abuse crisis. 4,400 priests have been accused of abusing children over a 52 year period. This number represents 4% of diocesan priests and 2.7% of religious priests. Moreover, the bulk of the accusations were made between 1975 and 1990. That is, the majority of these alleged incidents of abuse occurred more than seventeen years ago; only a small number of cases concern abuse that was committed recently or currently. Yet, the media has treated these cases not as isolated incidents involving a small percentage of the clergy but as
a widespread, institutional problem caused by the Church’s hierarchical structure and its requirement of clerical celibacy. The reaction of the press, of victims’ rights advocates, and of lawyers to this scandal has been nothing short of hysterical. And the enemies of the Church have seized upon it as “proof” that the Church itself is evil.

The fact that these same people seem to be completely unconcerned about the prevalence of sex abuse in the public schools is proof that they are not as concerned about the protection of children and young people as they are about bashing the Church. What hypocrites.
