First Presbyterian Church of Quincy and the Presbytery of Great Rivers have reached an agreement that will allow the church an orderly transfer to a different denomination while keeping its building and grounds.
First Presbyterian will pay the presbytery $196,000 on Jan. 9, a figure that allows the church to be sole owner of the property and facilities at 1027 S. 24th. The agreement also releases both parties from any future claims, damages or demands.

First Presbyterian Church also will change its name before March. Part of the agreement with the presbytery allows First Presbyterian to temporarily use that name until a replacement can be determined by church leaders.

In other news, a presbytery in Mississippi is trying to take over a church that voted to leave. Can't post that one - Gannett; but the church is Grace Chapel in Madison, MS.

Wrong, of course. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church has been around for over two and a half decades. So no new denomination here.
Wow. 25 years old.
Did they finally get it right after the mess of the last 2000 years of Church history?
No, but they got it better than most.
Interesting comment.
Which ones didn’t they get it better than? Would it not have been more spiritually sound to join with a better group?
They have one area of weakness, with one high profile manifestation of that weakness.
Although set up as a connectional church, they are functionally a blend of connectional and congregational. The local congregations are given great autonomy in most areas, and there is little that will merit discipline from a higher court. There are few things which are deemed to be essentials.
The clearest manifestation of this weakness comes in the area of ordination of women. It is neither permitted nor required. So you can have sister churches in full communion, one of which feels that as a matter of scripture, women can’t serve in ordained office, the other of which has women in those positions.
Of course, in the secondary standards which we share with the EPC, we recognize that no church, neither ours, nor theirs, or yours, this side of the return of Christ, is compelely pure.
To directly answer your question, I’d say that the Orthodox Presbyterians and the Associate Reformed Presbyterians (I am neither)get it better than either the EPC or PCA.
