Because they say they are Christians and no one wants to offend them.

However, offending them into realizing they have a false security regarding their eternal destiny may be the most loving thing to do.

Because the author is a putz engaged in nonsense. Catholic belief is that salvation is through God's grace period, no if's and's or but's about it. Moreover the author knows this.

To expand let me say that Catholics also beive that grace ca not be had without faith in Jesus Christ and that God commands us to do good works though doing good works is not in and of itself sufficient for salvation.

The article is not about how you or I would define a Christian, but how all Americans define their own Christianity.

Well, wait a minute here.Believe in Bible reading (the Holy Mass liturgy includes three readings: one Old Testament, one New Testament, One Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ. As well as numerous Psalms.) Catholics believe that a life lived in charity, a life lived honoring the precepts of the Lord, are visible witnessing to Christ and as such evangelizes. It it admittable that more aggressive evangelization would indeed be pleasing to the Lord, too. V's wife

Because the writer did not know what he was writing about! I noticed immediately that the so-called “liturgical” Christians in this article were Catholics and Lutherans, and the writer failed to include belief in Jesus Christ as something that made them Christians. What nonsence. Such inaccuracy ought to make the entire atrticle suspect.
